베어 클로 산으로 지리학 현장 학습을 떠난 대학생 조사팀은 우연히 죽음의 그림자라고 불리는 정체 모를 괴물에게 많은 이들이 살해당한 사건에 대해 듣게 된다. 하지만 그들은 지어낸 이야기로 여기고 대수롭지 않게 생각한다. 각 팀으로 나뉘어 흩어져 과제를 하나씩 풀다가 정체 모를 독성 폐기물을 발견하게 된다. 세심한 검사 도중 새로운 사실을 알게 되는데, 산에 얽힌 끔찍한 비밀이 밝혀질 때마다 일행이 하나씩 사라진다.
