Al has invited a few friends over for a barbecue to celebrate V’s birthday. The party atmosphere changes when Al realizes that her boyfriend Jimmy, who is also V’s best friend, has disappeared. Al and V set out across Los Angeles to look for Jimmy.

The highway of the title is a 2,000 mile dirt road in Kazakhstan. Along this route, a traveling family circus journeys in their crowded hand-cranked bus, stopping in villages. The filmmaker accompanies the Tadjibajevs, capturing their quarrels, performances, and intimate moments.

안나는 어느날 바의 여자 화장실에서 한여자가 잔인하게 살인당하는 소리를 듣고 그 범인을 목격하게 된다. 그 범인은 뉴욕 경찰 프레슈어였다. 그때부터 안나에게 음란한 전화가 계속되고 그녀는 서서히 알지 못할 전화 주인공의 은밀한 유혹에 말려 들어가게 된다. 누군가가 그녀를 미행하기 시작한다. 안나는 추적자가 전화의 주인공인 줄 아나 실은 제리민과 프레슈어의 협박을 받은 자들이었다. 답답한 안나는 자신의 비밀을 친구인 코리에게 말하고 둘의 친구인 빌이 어두운 뉴욕의 뒷골목에서 안나와 함께 위험한 상황에 몰려들게 된다. 사건이 이외의 방향으로 얽히면서 발전하기 시작한다.
