FBI가 사용하는 전문 심리 기법을 통해 사람들의 마음을 꿰뚫어보는 탁월한 헤드헌터 ‘로저(엑셀 헨니)’는 고가의 미술품을 훔치고 대신 위작을 걸어놓는 행위를 비밀리에 일삼고 있다. 그러던 어느 날, 아내의 소개로 만난 ‘클라스(니콜라이 코스터-월도)’가 루벤스의 사라진 명화를 소장하고 있다는 사실을 알게 된 로저는 그림을 훔쳐 거액을 챙기고 새로운 삶을 살기로 다짐한다. 하지만 그 마지막 한 탕에서 모든 일이 엇나가기 시작하고, 설상가상으로 아내가 클라스와 외도를 했다는 충격적인 사실마저 밝혀지는데… 애써 훔친 그림으로 한몫 벌기는커녕 도리어 사람 사냥꾼에게 쫓기는 신세에 처하는 로저. 그는 클라스의 정체를 밝히고 자신의 삶을 되찾을 수 있을까?
