That morning they went to church, sleep-deprived – the previous night they had sat for a long time by the bonfire, busy discussing an old legend about princess Wanda who drowned in the rapid currents of Vistula river.

Michikha is Not Afraid of Airplanes

"Michikha Is Not Afraid of Airplanes" is a visual essay about a journey - even one that is impossible, didn't take place, or was undertaken vicariously. The project examines the extent to which the early 20th century story of Evenk guide Michikha and Polish anthropologist Maria Antonina Czaplicka is a universal tale about power couples in describing the world.

The film was inspired by Mieczysława Nogajewska, the prewar proprietress of "Foto-Elite" - a well-known photo studio in the city of Gdynia. WhenWorld War II outbroke, Nogajewska lost her entire livelihood; she spent many years wandering around Poland in search of a safe place to live and reopen her studio.
