마뉴엘라는 마을의 부유한 남자 돈 페드로 바거스와의 결혼을 앞두고 있다. 하지만 그녀는 언제나 전설적인 해적 마코코를 만나기를 꿈꾼다. 한편 매력적인 가수 세라핀이 이끄는 순회 공연단이 마을을 찾고, 마뉴엘라는 세라핀의 공연을 보게 된다. 마뉴엘라에게 첫눈에 반한 세라핀은 그녀의 환심을 사기 위해 검은 해적 마코코로 가장하고, 그녀에게 접근한다.
