"Les quatre vérités" aka "The Four Truths" is a movie anthology that consists of four segments, all loosely parodying fables from the 17th-century French poet Jean de la Fontaine. The US cut usually features only 3 segments.

The planet is filled with dust and particles of all kinds, natural or originated by man. Such a state of things has of course a great many consequences for public health, with diseases like silicosis, inherent in various human activities, some of which are detailed (farming, notably the treatment of flax; industrial activity, particularly porcelain and cement work, coal mining).

노르망디 해안의 어느 휴양지로 일단의 사람들이 휴가를 위해 몰려오고 영화의 끝에서 그들은 다시 원래 왔던 곳으로 돌아간다. 자끄 타티 감독의 영화에 등장하는 대중적인 캐릭터 윌로씨가 처음 등장하는 영화. 휴가철이 되자 브르타뉴 해변에는 휴양객들이 몰려든다. 그런데 그들의 휴가는 왠지 권태로워 보인다. 어느 날 그 곳에 신사적이고 점잖은 듯 보이는 윌로씨가 도착하며 소동이 일어난다. 영화는 일관된 이야기가 이어지기보다는 그저 휴가에 따라 벌어지는 소동을 보여준다. 윌로씨라는 인물이 황당한 행동을 하는 장면과 그가 벌인 일을 당한 휴양객들이 어리둥절해 하는 에피소드로 나뉜다. 사람들에게 잘 하려고 하지만 늘 사고를 일으키는 윌로씨는 그 곳의 천덕꾸러미 신세가 되고 만다. 그는 늘 한 발짝 늦는 바람에 세상과 조화되지 못하고 늘 겉도는 인생이다. 그리고 세상은 그런 그를 배려하지 않는다. 슬랩스틱 코미디의 대중적인 호소력과 모더니즘적 실험을 융합한 영화들을 만들며 작가의 위치에 올라선 감독 자크 타티는 윌로씨라는 캐릭터를 만들어 내며 그 후 수 편의 영화를 만들었다(이 엉뚱하기 그지없는 아저씨 윌로씨를 연기하는 이는 자크 타티 감독 본인이다). 훗날 트뤼포는 '드와넬' 시리즈 중 한 편에서 윌로씨를 카메오 등장시키기도 했다.

This 1952 film by Georges Franju is a biographical film about cinematic illusionist Georges Méliès. It features Méliès’s widow, Jeanne d’Alcy, as herself, and their son, André, as his own father. LE GRAND MÉLIÈS, like Franju’s Louis Feuillade tribute, JUDEX, is a revealing homage to one of the director’s idols.

프랑스 한 시골 마을에서 축제가 열린다. 집배원 프랑수아는 축제를 위해 만들어진 영화관에서 미국의 발달된 우편 시스템에 관한 다큐멘터리를 보고 자신도 미국식으로 편지를 배달하려고 한다. 하지만 자전거 한 대만을 가지고, 미국의 거대한 우편 시스템을 따라잡을 수는 없는 노릇. 이때부터 프랑수아의 좌충우돌 우편 배달기가 코믹하게 전개된다. 미국화로 대표되는 현대화와 프랑스의 전통적인 가치 속에서 고민하는 프랑스인들의 고뇌를 담은 영화. 타티는 컬러과 컬러의 두 버전으로 촬영했지만, 흑백 버전으로 개봉되었다 후에, 자크 타티의 딸 소피 타티쉐프의 노력으로 컬러 버전으로 복원되어 소개되기도 했다. 자크 타티는 자신이 주연과 감독을 맡은 이 영화로, 베니스 영화제 황금사자상 후보에까지 올라 감독으로서의 자신의 존재를 알렸다.
