벼룩시장에서 발견한 앤틱 상자를 집으로 가져온 클라이드의 딸 엠. 미스터리하게 열리지 않던 이 상자는 엠에 의해 우연히 세상 밖으로 열린다. 이후 엠은 남몰래 어두운 주방에서 날고기를 먹고, 수백 마리의 나방이 가득한 방에 앉아 상자와 대화를 나누는 등 점점 이상한 모습을 보이기 시작한다. 딸을 걱정하는 클라이드는 그녀를 병원으로 데려가지만 치료를 거부하는 엠에게 자리잡은 악령으로 인해 병원마저 쑥대밭이 된다. 클라이드는 그녀를 구하기 위해 절박한 심정으로 엑소시스트에게 도움을 청하고, 그녀를 구하기 위해서는 누군가의 희생이 필요하다는 말을 듣게 되는데
