약력

Sonthar Gyal (b. 1974) is a Tibetan director from Tongde County, Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai. Gyal studied at the Tsolho Nationalities Teacher Training College in Hainan Prefecture and taught in the nomadic community for four years. Afterwards, he received a scholarship to study fine arts at the Qinghai Normal University in Xining. After graduating in 2003 with a B.A. in Fine Arts, he worked as an art teacher and a curator at the Tongde Cultural Museum. Encouraged by his friend, Pema Tseden, who also hails from Hainan Prefecture, Gyal followed him to the prestigious Beijing Film Academy, where he studied cinematography for 2 years with the support of Trace Foundation. Upon graduation, Gyal worked as a cinematographer and artistic director for a series of films and documentaries, many directed by Tseden. Lhamo and Skalbe fail to get married when they find out that Skalbe has already registered a marriage. Memories rush back as Skalbe embarks on a journey in search for his so-called ex-wife Cuoyehe, only to discover that the girl had renunciated her secular life when she broke their marriage promise four years ago. As a result, Cuoyehe's religious identity causes great difficulty in Skalbe's attempt at a divorce. On the other hand, Lhamo becomes aloof.

자신이 심각한 병에 걸렸다는 것을 알게 된 어마는 남편에게도 사실을 숨긴 채 치료를 거부하고 오체투지를 하면서 라싸로 갈 결심을 한다. 부인의 체력이 약한 것을 아는 남편은 2년 뒤에 같이 떠나자고 설득하지만 결국 고집에 이기지 못하고 부인의 말을 들어주기로 한다. 라싸로 떠나기 전 어마는 친정집에 들린다. 친정집에는 그녀의 전남편과의 사이에서 낳은 아들 눠얼우가 할머니, 할아버지와 함께 살고 있었다. 엄마가 다른 남자에게 시집간 뒤로 완전히 마음을 닫아버린 눠얼우는 계속 말썽을 부린다. 뒤늦게 어마에게 큰 병이 있다는 사실을 알게 된 남편 뤄얼지는 어마를 뒤쫓아가서 함께 큰 병원을 가자고 라싸로 순례를 떠나는 것을 간곡히 막아보지만 어마는 듣지 않는다. 사실 어마는 죽기 전에 반드시 라싸까지 절을 하며 성지순례를 가야 하는 이유가 있었는데…
