영화화를 전제로 ‘빛’을 주제로 한 단가(短歌) 콘테스트를 개최, 그곳에서 뽑힌 4수의 단가를 바탕으로 하여 네 개의 장으로 만든 영화다. 각각의 장은 독립된 중편으로 감상할 수도 있는데, 모든 장에서 도쿄 교외에서 살아가는 젊은 여성을 주인공으로 설정하고 있으며 등장인물이 부르는 ‘노래’ 장면이 삽입되는 등의 공통점도 발견할 수 있다.
Seeking to exact revenge upon Yoji, Yukio travels to an area surrounded by the sea, desert and lava topped mountains. There, Yukio meets mysterious Rika and becomes enchanted by her presence.
