유명 배우인 쥬느비에브 가를랜드는 라신의 희곡 『앙드로마크』를 자신의 동료이자 남편인 앙드레와 연습한다. 그러나 그녀는 이 역을 연기하는 데 있어 왠지 모를 심한 거부감을 느끼고 그녀의 역할을 가장 친한 친구인 이자벨에게 양보한다. 이자벨은 사실 남편의 정부다. 그녀는 오래전부터 쥬느비에브의 자리를 탐해왔다. 쥬느비에브는 아픈 아들을 돌볼 겸 아들과 함께 시골 여행길에 오른다.

Although Vecchiali’s precision is impressive, Achard also shows moments where his collaborators’ input is essential. Under the director’s eye, the stars are becoming actors again, and Achard revives the heritage of Vecchiali’s '70s and '80s production studio Diagonale.

Among the regular riders is a woman who is both spectator and guide – she introduces, comments on, ponders and catalyzes the sometimes vain, sometimes serious preoccupations of her fellow travelers, who, for the moment, are rushing headlong toward their destiny. The commuters and their observer have double lives. Once they step off this streetcar, the real-life dramas begin. Each has his or her style of living or dying…
