When Bhagwan Shri Jagannath and his brother, Bhagwan Shri Balabhadra, refuse to partake offerings from a lower-caste woman, Shriya. Devi Maa Lakshmi is offended and puts a curse on both of them. The duo, hungry and homeless, go from village to village, house to house in search of food. What they don't realize is that Devi Maa, in collusion with Vayu Dev, Agni Dev, and Pawan Dev is determined to teach both of them a lesson they will never forget.

Kedar Babu is a freedom fighter since the days of Mahatma Gandhi's call for a Civil Disobedience Movement. Kedar Babu lost his wife at an early stage of his marriage. Since then, he has brought up his only son Sangram with all paternal affection. In town, Sangram stays in the house of a landlord, Bahadur Suryakant Singh, where there is a gradual moral decline. This puts him in a state of dilemma and delusion. In the last encounter with his father. Sangram experiences a new perception of life, illuminated with anxiety.

The movie portrays the relationship between the British colonialists, and native villagers who were exploited by Indian landlords in 1920s India. This happens against the backdrop of the awakening of the Indian people against the British rule.

Laxmi lives a poor lifestyle in a small village in India along with her husband, Kishtaya, who is a deaf-mute. Both husband and wife work for the wealthy landlord. The landlord's son, Surya, has to cancel his studies and return home to look after the estate, as well as formalize his marriage to Saroj, the girl he was compelled to get married to when he was very young. Shortly thereafter Kishtaya is apprehended stealing toddy from the fields, is severely beaten, left senseless, and when he recovers he absconds, leaving Laxmi alone to fend for herself.

So Sanjay ended up as a train conductor, unhappy with the career forced upon him, and the mechanical, meaningless life that he lives. In the course of his duty on the train, he runs into a working girl, Shalini and feels attracted to her. His father hears about his interest in Shalini, strongly disapproves of it and intervenes in Sanjay's life once again. Unable to stand up to his father, Sanjay soon finds himself married to a village girl. Life becomes even more unbearable for Sanjay. He takes to wandering and seeks comfort in drink and brothels. One final chance comes his way to break loose from his shackles and plan a new life with Shalini.

The Tagore story is a pure fantasy. Shekar Chaterji, a teacher lives in a village along with his wife (Sova Sen) and his son. He is a strict father. And his son is a mischievous lad. His son's wayward ways is a constant source of irritation to Shekar Chaterji. Complaints from villagers about his misdeeds keep pouring in. Inspite of his strictness, Shekar Chaterji is unable to keep his son at bay. His son even dares to bunk from the class while he is teaching. His disciplinary actions create a gulf in the family relations. Both his wife and son are at loggerheads with him.
