영춘각에서 일하는 여장부는 리 칸이 수행원들과 함께 이곳을 지나간다는 정보를 입수한다. 그녀의 네 명의 정예 협객과 함께 리 칸이 지닌 전쟁 지도를 빼앗기 위해 혈투를 벌인다. 영화의 전반부는 영춘각에 모인 인물에 대한 묘사와 분위기가 중심이 되고, 후반부는 객점과 모래 언덕에서 벌어지는 칼부림을 보여주고 있다. 이 영화는 호금전의 미학적 요소, 움직임과 미장센이 완벽하게 주제의식과 맞아 떨어졌다는 평가를 받았다. 협객, 우국지사 그리고 반역자 리 칸과 수행원들이 영춘각을 찾아온다. 그들은 살의가 흐르는 객점에서 결코 긴장을 풀 수 없다. 이어 피와 살육전이 벌어지면서 휴식을 취할 수 있는 곳에서 쉴 수 없는 검객의 존재나 객점은 삶의 덧없음으로 보여준다. 이와 같은 초우주적인 사고는 모래 언덕의 결투 장면에서도 나타난다. 객점이란 좁은 공간에서 허공을 날으며 싸우는 검객, 영웅들은 하나 같이 초인간적인 힘을 보여주었다. 그러나 무대가 객점에서 모래 사막으로 바뀌며 그 인간적인 존재와 칼부림은 자연 속의 하나의 점에 불과해진다. 이 싸움은 누가이기든 간에 인간의 권력과 욕망의 칼부림은 거대한 자연 앞에서 허무해진다. 호금전이 보여주는 자연과 인간이 조화롭지 못한 산수 풍경화는 현실에서 속되게 산다는 것에 대해 냉소를 담고 있는데, 이것은 세상살이를 초연하는 청풍한 중국의 철학과 무관하지 않다. 원나라 말경, 조정의 악덕 정치에 뜻잇는 청년들이반원복한의 공작을 펼친다. 그러나 배신자가 있어 뜻을 이루지 못한다.원나라 종친인 하남성 이찰한의 계략에 말려든 것이다. 간신히 목숨을건진 몇몇은 주원장 부대배치 지도를 가지고 영춘각으로 숨어든다. 사실영춘각은 원나라에 대항하기 위한 연락장소로 사용돼 왔었다. 이찰한은심복을 위장 잠입시켜 그 가막을 조사하고, 쌍방은 치열한 혈전을 벌이는데....

Chuan Yuan is the noble, powerful hero and Shu Pei-pei, one of Shaw’s top swordswoman, is a reluctant bride who comes upon a rebellion plot. They are joined by a large cast of expert fighters and actors all keeping the intrigue and adventure foremost in the film. There’s even a nice surprise ending amidst all the action.

Teddy plays some physically deformed musical genius named Wu Sheng who falls for a blind girl named Jui Fang (Chin Ping). Is love really blind? According to Wu Sheng, probably so, but when Jui Fang is on the verge of regaining her eyesight from an operation, Wu Sheng packs up and leaves the country for fear of Jui Fang disowning him once her eyes gets a look at Wu Sheng.

송나라 말엽, 금나라가 침입을 해오자, 악비 장군은 그들과 맞서 목숨을 건 전투를 벌인다. 적들과 내통하고 있는 송나라 정승 진회는 전선으로 12금패를 보내어 악비 장군을 소환하려 한다. 애국심에 불타는 청년 묘용(악화)은 이들을 막으려 하지만, 이 모든 일을 맡은 자가 자신의 사부 금안당임을 알게 된다. 금안당의 딸 금쇄(진평) 역시 아버지가 하는 일이 나라를 팔아먹는 일이라는 것을 알고 집을 나온다. 결국 묘용과 금쇄는 각각 스승과 아버지를 상대로 싸워야하는 운명의 장난에 말려든다.

Lone swordsman Jiang Dan-Feng (Wong Chung-Shun) is ambushed by a pair of bandits and quickly despatches them. One of them, as he is dying, asks Jiang to take his personal effects to his sister. This being a Wuxia film, our hero is bound by a strict code of honour, and he agrees. The bandit’s sister, Xiu Xiu (Shu Pei-Pei), is surprisingly forgiving and tells him that he got mixed up in a bad crowd of robbers before he died. As it happens, these self-same bandits are threatening to tear up the village at any moment, and Jiang prepares to defend it despite being despised by the town folk for killing Xiu Xiu’s brother.

The Silver Fox is a throwback, the last of its kind where the heroic swordsmen are women. Lily Ho (before she became one of Shaw Brothers' great erotica actresses) portrays the feared swordswoman Silver Fox, who as a child saw her father senselessly wounded and her mother raped. It's 18 years later and it's payback time.

Black Butterfly, steals from the rich and gives to the poor. Trouble starts when a bandit gang, who the Black Butterfly has robbed, come to town looking for them. Eventually, the Black Butterfly and their new allies, will have to confront the bandit gang at their fortress.

시대가 명확하지 않은 전쟁을 배경으로 한 검객 니에의 개인적 영웅주의를 담고 있다. 니에는 양장군으로부터 적장 한장군을 암살해 달라는 부탁을 받는다. 니에는 밀령을 운명적으로 받아들이고 마지막 장면에서 처절한 결투 끝에 한 장군을 살해한다. 그때 장철 감독은 영화와 연극(북경 오페라)의 전통을 결합하여 쇼킹한 장면을 선보였다. 배경이 어두워지자, 니에는 별안간 뒤돌아서 활복을 하고 스스로 눈알을 뺀다. 이 행위는 자기 파괴가 궁극적으로 자아의 성취라는 순교적인 의미로 보여졌다. 춘추전국시대, 치정이 얽힌 음모 때문에 스승을 잃은 위나라의 섭정은 스승의 원수를 갚은 뒤 제나라로 피신하고, 수년 후 한나라의 엄중자로부터 한의 재상 한괴를 죽이고 나라를 바로 세워달라는 부탁을 받는다. 가족에 대한 애정과 국가에 대한 충성심 사이에서 번민하던 섭정은 결국 하영과 마지막 밤을 보내고 돌아오지 못할 길에 몸을 던진다.

A suave swinger and a cool chick have one half of a treasure map, the bad guys have the other half. Who will get the goods?

Ling Yun plays the replacement hired for a popular band whose egotistic drummer quit to join a rival group. When the new arrival becomes a hit, he earns the jealous wrath of the predecessor. Meanwhile, the young drummer's mother is fervently against his music career. With the gorgeous Lily Ho as the manageress of the band and some terrific drumming set pieces, the whole thing, needless to say, comes off with a bang.

Northeastern China is infested with bandits. Hsiao Kai (Paul Chang Chung), a wandering knight, captures a white horse from thieves. His skilful handling of the horse earns his admiration of fellow traveler Chu Ching Hsu (Wong Chung Shun). They arrive at Lo Lung Kow, where the villagers hunt for a living and are constantly terrorized by bandits. Grocer Ting Tze Pao (Ngai Ping Ngo) returns from his negotiations with the bandits with bad news. They intend to collect furs from the villagers at a fixed price. Village leader Mu (Yuen Sam and his daughter Tsui Ying (Pat ting Hung) run a tavern. She wonders how the white horse belonging to a Sinkiang youth named Sha Yi Ti (Man Ling) is now in the possession of Hsiao Kai.

The rapier wit is not only for playful bantering between a couple but also for fighting justice. Famed attorney Sung Sai-kit (Ma Si-tsang) is best known for his sharp pen and silver tongue. His wife Madam Tong (Hung Sin Nui), sympathetic with a wronged widow, tries every trick up her sleeve to get her husband to help. Ma is funny and lovable who morphs from the henpecked husband to the brilliant and shrewd attorney at court, he displays perseverance behind his devil-may-care and nonchalant attitude, even Stephen Chow reincarnated his persona in the 1992 version.
