17세의 여고생 소소가 낸시의 학교에 오면서 두 사람은 절친한 친구가 된다. 소소는 어머니를 잃고 선원인 아버지가 배를 타는 동안 숙모에게 의지하여 살고 있다. 아버지가 세상을 뜨자 소소는 낸시와 함께 기거하게 된다. 어느날 공원에서 일본인 유학생 가민과 부딪혀 세사람은 인연을 맺는다. 고등학교를 졸업하고 가난한 소소는 클럽에 나가고 낸시는 대학에 진학한다. 5년 후 대학을 졸업한 낸시는 패션 디자이너가 되고, 소소는 화려하고 성숙한 여인이 된다. 어느 날 낸시는 길을 가다가 가민을 만나고, 기자가 되서 일본에서 홍콩으로 돌아온 그가 아직도 소소를 잊지 못하고 있는 것에 질투를 느낀다. 그러나 소소는 이미 돈 많은 선박회사 사장아들과 결혼을 결심한 후였다. 낸시는 가민이 소소를 못잊어 하자 두 사람을 재회시켜 주지만, 가민은 어쩔 수 없이 돌아서고 만다. 그러나 애정없는 결혼 생활에 염증을 느낀 소소는 일본으로 가민을 찾아가고, 두 사람은 행복한 시간을 갖는다.
