A pompous, aging alcoholic and a tourettes-inflicted ten-year-old boy are forced to spend a week together at a high-end hotel. They then start to meet at different occasions and throughout the film, Alberto takes Sofie on an odyssey of the history of philosophy, from ancient Greece, over the Roman empire, the Middle ages, the renaissance, the enlightenment, the big revolutions and up to today. This mellow comedy is the third entry in filmmaker Anja Breien's "Wives" series and stars the same three actresses who appeared in the first two. This episodic film begins with flashbacks to the 1975 film Wives and scenes from 1985's Wives: Ten Years Later. Now ten more years have passed and they are comfortably ensconced in middle age. They have gathered to hold a surprise birthday for Kaja aboard an Oslo streetcar. The three haven't seen each other in ages and much of the story focuses on their discussions of their disparate lives. Every word, smile and tear they share affirms the depth of their lasting friendship.

마티스는 드넓은 숲속을 지나가는 사람들에게 약탈을 일삼는 산적들의 두목이다. 비바람이 몰아치는 밤, 마티스의 딸이 태어나고 마티스의 아내는 아이에게 로냐라는 이름을 붙여준다. 그런데 산적 일당들이 한바탕 축하 잔치를 벌이는 도중에 천둥이 울리고 땅이 갈라지면서 이들이 살던 성도 두 쪽으로 갈라진다. 세월이 흘러 로냐는 산적 패거리들의 사랑을 받으며 씩씩하고 용감한 소녀로 성장한다. 그런데 갈라진 성의 나머지 한쪽에 보르카가 이끄는 산적 패거리가 들어와 살면서 마티스 패거리와 갈등을 빚는다. 어느 날 로냐는 보르카의 아들 비르크와 우연히 만난다. 처음에는 아빠의 원수지간인 보르카의 아들이라는 이유로 비르크를 적대시했지만 이내 둘은 서로에게 마음을 열고 좋은 친구가 된다. 하지만 원수의 자식과 친구처럼 지내는 로냐가 못마땅한 마티스는 비르크를 인질로 잡고 보르카 패거리에게 성에서 당장 떠나라고 요구한다. 아빠의 행동이 원망스러운 로냐는 자진해서 보르카 패거리의 인질이 된다. 결국 두 아이를 맞교환하면서 소동은 마무리되지만 어른들에게 실망한 로냐와 비르크는 성에서 뛰쳐나와 온갖 위험이 도사리고 있는 숲속으로 들어가는데... The Swedish 19th century engineer Salomon August Andrée sets out to become the first man on the north pole. His idea is to launch a polar expedition using a hydrogen balloon, together with two friends. The balloon, "The Eagle", takes off from Svalbard in 1897, but the three men are not heard of again.

This farce cocerns Sweden's King Gustav (Per Oscarsson who plays all the lead roles). The royal monarchs of three major European countries are patiently or not-so-patiently hovering on the sidelines while watching the future King Gustav closely. No single king appears to possess the brains he was born with, so history seems to be made by default, as it were. Gustav does blunder around, but not enough to miss being crowned king. As a result, France, England, and Germany invade Sweden hoping to take by force what they could not gain by incompetence.
