‘레드독’은 1970년대 오스트레일리아 서부 필버라 지역을 중심으로 곳곳을 여행하며 많은 사람들의 사랑을 받은 것으로 유명한 개의 별칭이다. 전설처럼 전해지는 레드독의 실화는 여러 문학 작품의 소재가 됐고, 영국 작가 루이드베르니에르의소설 은 2011년 오스트레일리아에서 동명 영화로 제작되기도 했다.영화 은 2017년 현재에도 역대 오스트레일리아 영화 흥행 11위를 차지하고 있을 만큼 많은 사랑을 받아 왔다. 는 을 연출한크리브스텐더스 감독이 다시 메가폰을 잡고의 앞 이야기를 담은 속편, 곧 프리퀄이다. 훗날 ‘레드독’이라 불리게 되는 개와 소년의 우정 및 성장을 유쾌하고 감동적으로 담아낸 가족 영화로, 2017년 베를린국제영화제 어린이 영화 부문인 '제너레이션 K플러스'에서 상영된 바 있다.
