It's Christmas Eve 1944 in the small town of Bedford Falls, New York. What Mary does not know is that most in town, including her husband George Hatch and their children, are also praying for her. All the prayers are heard by Joseph, God's gatekeeper of prayers. As there are no other angels available on such a busy day, Joseph assigns Clara Oddbody, angel second class (i.e. she has yet to receive her wings), to Mary's case, which he reluctantly does as Clara has never been assigned a case on her own in the two hundred years she's been in heaven for good reason.

정박아가 수술 실험의 대상이 되어 천재로 변했다가 다시 정박아로 되돌아간다는 내용의 매우 감동적인 작품. 영화의 원작인 다니엘 키이즈(Daniel Keyes)의 소설 '알제논에게 바치는 꽃다발(Flowers for Algernon)' 역시 미국의 교과서에도 실릴 정도로 수작이며 이웃 일본에서는 번역 소설 중에서 손꼽히는 스테디셀러이다. 주인공인 찰리 역을 열연한 클리프 로버트슨(Cliff Robertson)은 아카데미상 남우주연상을 수상하였다.

왕년에 잘나가던 브로드웨이의 연극 제작자 맥스 비알리스톡은 거듭되는 실패로 재정난에 처하자 부유한 노부인들과 부적절한 관계를 맺으며 제작비를 충당한다. 그러던 중 맥스의 장부를 정리하던 회계사 레오 블룸은 흥행에 실패한 연극이 오히려 수익이 좋았다는 어처구니없는 사실을 알게 된다. 맥스와 레오는 바로 의기투합, 소위 망하는 작품을 무대에 올리기 위해 최악의 극본과 배우들을 찾아 나선다. 그러나 두 사람이 실패할 것이라고 확신했던 뮤지컬 ‘히틀러의 봄날’은 보기 좋게 대박을 치고 만다. 뜻하지 않은 관객들의 갈채와 환호에 당황한 맥스와 레오는 극작가 프란츠와 합세해 극장을 폭파하려다 실패하고 감옥에 수감된다. 하지만 죽이 너무 잘 맞는 이 괴짜 삼인방은 교도소 안에서도 기상천외한 뮤지컬을 만들어 동료 수감자들과 교도관들의 주머니를 털기 시작한다.

록키와 앤지는 아이를 갖게 되고 아이를 지우기 위해 의사를 찾아나서게 되면서 다시 진정한 사랑을 찾게 되는 내용의 로맨틱 코미디로 나탈리 우드와 스티브 맥퀸이 각각 앤지와 록키를 연기했다.
