파라드의 일생에 걸친 사랑 이야기이다. 어린 시절 같은 반 학생이었던 수잔을 좋아했던 파라드는 그 시절부터 평생 수잔을 사랑한다. 시를 쓰고, 어머니 호마를 위해 과자를 굽는 다정한 어른이 된 파라드는 이란 혁명이 발발하자 마흐텁(성인이 된 파라드가 수잔을 부르는 이름. 달빛이라는 뜻)과 친구들과 함께 이란을 떠나고자 하다가 경찰에 연행된다. 모두를 대신 해 감옥에 간 파라드는 그로부터 6년 동안 갇혀서 과거를 추궁당한다. 그리고 돌아온 집에서 호마와 마흐텁을 만나 다시 한번 새로운 가족을 꾸리고자 한다. 4년이 흘러 임신한 마흐텁과 파라드, 호마는 그들이 항상 그리워했던 라시트로 여행을 떠난다.
