The foul-mouthed, wheelchair-bound Mr. Rush introduces three adventure tales inspired by the EC Comics of the 1950s: "Showdown," "King of the Road," and "Yellow." This star-studded telefilm was an attempt to launch a second anthology series in the mold of "Tales from the Crypt." When the film failed to generate sufficient interest, the three tales were re-edited and shown as "Crypt" episodes.

왈도 페퍼(로버트 레드포드 분)는 네브래스카 지방을 순회하며 비행 곡예를 하며 돈을 벌고 있다. 그는 세계 1차 대전에 조종사로 참전한 군인 출신이었는데, 새로운 비행기를 사기 위해 비행 곡예를 하며 돈을 모으고 있다. 그러던 어느 날, 왈도와 같이 비행 곡예를 하며 돈을 벌고 있는 엑셀 올슨(보 스벤슨 분)과 마주치고 다툼을 벌인다. 엑셀 올슨을 한바탕 골탕 먹인 뒤 도망친 왈도는 우연히 영화관에서 마주친 여인 메리 베쓰(수잔 서랜든 분)과 함께하는 자리에서 엑셀 올슨과 조우한다. 티격태격하던 두 사람은 비행 곡예단의 스턴트맨으로 들어가기 위해 합심하여 연습을 하는데, 때때로 사고를 당하기도 한다. 결국 스턴트맨으로 취직한 왈도 일행은 비행 곡예를 홍보하기 위해 메리 베쓰와 위험한 비행에 나서게 되고, 결국 메리 베쓰는 비행기에 떨어져 목숨을 잃게 되는데...
