Joey Cooper is a small boy who wants more than anything to be a member of the "Wilderness Club." But he has failed over and over again to pass the test and was not allowed to join. But when Joey gets home after his latest failure, he finds his mother has bought him all new camping equipment for his trip. 빈스(Vince Miller : 마이클 매드슨 분)는 마티(Marty : 닉 디미트리 분)라는 갱단이 카지노에서 돈을 빼돌리는 걸 알고 그 돈을 빼앗기위해 마티를 죽이고 자기의 연인인 페이(Fay Forrester : 조안 휠리-킬머 분)와 네바다주에 가서 행복하게 살기를 원한다. 그러나 페이는 베가스로 가기를 원해 서로 말다툼을 하다 페이가 빈스를 돌로 머리를 쳐서 정신을 잃게한 후 돈을 갖고 도망친다. 여관으로 들어온 페이는 잡지를 보다 잭(Jack Andrews : 발 킬머 분)이라는 사립탐정이 비밀을 보장해 준다는 광고를 보고 찾아간다. 잭에게 자기를 가짜로 죽여달라고 하여 진짜 죽은 것처럼 남들에게 속이고 나서 잭에게 대가의 절반을 주지않고 또 도망간다. 살인미수죄로 감옥에 갔다온 잭은 페이를 찾기위해 라스베가스로 향한다. 카지노에서 도박을 하고있는 페이를 찾아서 모든 사실을 듣게 된다. 그러는 사이 둘에게 사랑이 싹트는데 마티의 갱단들이 들이닥친다. 마티의 갱단들을 죽이고 둘은 세이프 하버라는 곳으로 도망간다. 살인죄로 추적을 당하는 둘은 페이를 또 거짓으로 죽이고 다른 곳으로 도망가기로 하는데.
