On 3 May 2022, Cameron Mackintosh invited many of Stephen Sondheim’s old friends to join him in London’s West End for a thrilling, joyously staged production. He had specially devised it to celebrate Sondheim’s extraordinary talents as a composer and lyricist. Featuring an all-star cast including Michael Ball, Helena Bonham Carter, Rob Brydon, Petula Clark, Anna-Jane Casey, Rosalie Craig, Janie Dee, Judi Dench, Daniel Evans, Maria Friedman, Haydn Gwynne, Bonnie Langford, Damian Lewis and Julia McKenzie.

1943. On an archipelago in the South Pacific Ocean, US troops are kicking their heels amid the cacao groves while restlessly waiting for the war to reach them. Nellie Forbush, a navy nurse from Arkansas, finds herself falling for the French plantation owner, Emile de Becque – a man with a mysterious past. The scheming sailor Luther Billis runs a makeshift laundry to earn a quick buck, but he’s no match for the quick-witted Polynesian Bloody Mary who’s intent on exploiting these foreigners. Marking the 80th birthday of one of Broadway's great innovators, the first ever all-Sondheim Prom at the Royal Albert Hall. The concert includes excerpts from hit shows A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd and Into the Woods performed by a starry cast of leading figures of the opera and theatre worlds with Bryn Terfel, Maria Friedman, Simon Russell Beale and some special guests. Members of a British opera troupe mount a production of "Sweeney Todd" within a maximum-security prison.

A young boy called Pip stumbles upon a hunted criminal who threatens him and demands food. A few years later, Pip finds that he has a benefactor. Imagining that Miss Havisham, a rich lady whose adopted daughter Estella he loves, is the benefactor, Pip believes in a grand plan at the end of which he will be married to Estella. However, when the criminal from his childhood turns up one stormy night and reveals that he, Magwitch, is his benefactor, Pip finds his dreams crumbling. Although initially repulsed by his benefactor, Pip gradually becomes loyal to him and stays with him until his death.

모스크바 행 기차에 한 무리의 사관 생도들이 승차한다. 몇 명의 생도들이 비좁고 더러운 3등 칸을 피해 1등 칸으로 몰래 숨어 들어간다. 친구들의 장난으로 한 객실에 혼자 남겨진 사관 생도 안드레이 톨스토이(올멕 멘쉬코프)는 객실에 있던 미국 여인 제인 칼라한(줄리아 오몬드)에게 매혹된다. 제인 또한 순수한 안드레이에게 끌린다. 안드레이가 부른 모차르트의 '피가로의 결혼식'을 들은 제인의 마음은 설레인다. 그러나 제인은 사관학교의 교장이며 러시아 황제의 오른 팔인 레들로프 장군(알렉세이 페트렌코)을 유혹해 맥클레컨이라는 발명가의 실험 중인 벌목기를 러시아 정부에 납품시키기 위해 고용된 여인이었다. 레들로프를 유혹하는 데는 성공했지만 제인의 마음은 어느샌가 안드레이에게 끌린다. 한편 안드레이는 제인에 대한 자신의 사랑을 졸업식날 고백하기로 마음 먹는다. 그러나 레들로프 장군 역시 제인에게 청혼하려 하고 그는 안드레이에게 자신의 청혼의 연서를 그에게 읽게 한다. 어쩔 수 없이 장군의 청혼서를 읽던 안드레이는 갑자기 제인에게 자신의 마음을 고백해버린다.
