Self-effacing doctor Naveen Gavaskar meets Jay Kurundkar, a white man adopted by two Indian parents, when Jay takes his picture at the hospital. 지미 본즈는 상당히 성공한 흑인 사업가, 그리고 지역인사로서 존경받는 인물이다. 그런 어느날 부패경찰 루보비치는 흑인 마약상인 맥과 함께 본즈에게 마약업에 동참할 것을 강요하지만 본즈는 이를 단호히 거절한다. 본즈의 거절에 자존심이 상한 루포비치는 본즈의 애인이 출현함과 동시에 갑작스런 총격전을 벌이고, 본즈는 중상을 입고 쓰러진다. 당황한 루포비치는 그 자리에 있던 모든 사람들에게 아직 숨이 붙어있는 본즈를 칼로 찌르게 하여 그들을 모두 살인공범으로 만든다. 그리하여 측근인 맥, 제레미아 그리고 엉겁결에 들어온 본즈의 애인까지 공범이 되고, 이 사건은 20년동안 은폐된다. 사건이 일어난 건물은 본즈의 소유로 사건이후 시신이 그대로 방치된 채 제레미아의 회사가 관리하는 부동산이 되었다. 음산한 기운만을 내뿜던 건물을 제레미아의 아들 패트릭은 아버지 몰래 헐값에 사들인다. 아버지의 반대에도 불구하고 패트릭은 건물을 수리하여 댄스 클럽을 만들 셀레임으로 일을 추진해 나간다. 그러나 건물에는 본즈의 영혼을 담은 사나운 개가 그들을 위협하고, 검은 그림자가 출현하는 등 두려움이 점차 감싸온다. 억울하게 죽은 본즈의 영혼이 부활하여 자신에게 칼을 꽂은 자들을 찾아가 목을 자른뒤 지옥의 도시에 매달아 고통의 신음소리를 즐기는 것이다. 끔찍한 사건들이 연이어 발생하자 본즈의 옛애인 펄은 본즈의 부활을 직감하게 된다. 펄은 더 이상의 비극을 막기위해 부활을 깨운 단서를 찾아 건물과 함께 본즈를 불살라 버린다. 한편 패트릭은 가까스로 건물을 탈출하여 목숨을 부지하고, 안도의 한숨을 쉬는 순간 생각지도 못한 일이 벌어지는데.
