Cidre was born in Havana, Cuba. At the age of 10, she immigrated to the United States with her family, and she later attended the University of Miami. She moved to Los Angeles and began a writing career. Her television film A Killing in a Small Town was nominated for six Emmy Awards in 1990. She later wrote critically acclaimed drama The Mambo Kings. In mid-2000s, Cidre moved to television, creating and producing CBS prime time soap opera Cane (2007) about Cuban-American family. Aired during 2007–08 Writers Guild of America strike, Cane was cancelled after single season. In 2009, she was hired as a showrunner and executive producer of TNT prime time soap opera, Dallas, a revival of the prime time television soap opera of the same name that aired on CBS from 1978 to 1991. The series premiered on June 13, 2012, and on October 3, 2014, was cancelled after three seasons. In 2015, she joined as co-showrunner another prime time soap opera, Blood & Oil on ABC. Later that year, it was announced that Cidre has signed a two-year overall deal with ABC Studios for develop new projects.

Expectant parents become prime suspects in the disappearance of a pregnant woman who was last seen at their garage sale. Model citizen David Rose runs a garden center and is a devoted house-father. Like his wife Ivy, who suffered two stillbirths, their new neighbor Melinda is near to giving birth. Just after David showed her around in the Rose home, Melinda goes missing. Although no corpse is found, just circumstantial evidence more likely to be planted then stupidly left behind, police detective Blanchard treats David as his sole suspect, soon arrested, even after nosy neighbor Bindel is knocked down while David is in jail. School buddy Theo does his best to counsel the couple, yet Ivy doubts her husband's innocence just because of indications he may have had an affair with Melinda since high-school, and starts snooping with her best friend Jody. The worst crime is still being hatched.

고교를 막 졸업한 17세의 꽃다운 사만다(Samantha Hughes: 에밀리 로이드 분)는 아버지가 월남전에서 전사하여 어머니와 에밋(Emmett Smith: 브루스 윌리스 분) 삼촌과 함께 살고 있다. 아버지에 대한 마음 속의 응어리 때문에 사만다는 대학 진학도 하지않고 방황하며 무위도식으로 하루하루를 소일한다. 남자 친구와도 헤어진 사만다는 우연히 참전 용사 중 하나였던 톰(Tom: 존 테리 분)과 가까와지게 되고 그를 통해 아버지의 흔적을 찾으려 애쓰지만 소용이 없다. 아버지가 남긴 일기를 읽으며 늪지에서 밤을 샌 사만다를 찾아온 에밋 삼촌은 마침내 무거운 입을 열어 옛 이야기 시작하는데.
