Third movie of the Sangokushi animated film trilogy. The movie covers the longest time span of the three films, from Liu Bei's expedition to Shu in 211 CE to the death of Kongming in 234 CE.

때는 198X년 미국은 적국에서 발사되는 전략핵미사일을 대기권 밖에서 격추시킬수 있는 요격용 레이저탑재 위성이 발사됩니다. 그리고, 이 위성을 우주왕복선 알바트로스호가 서포트하였고 여기에는 바트케인 박사와 여동생인 롤러 그리고 일본인 과학자 미쿠모가 탑승하고 있었으며, 위성요격 시험은 성공적으로 수행되었습니다. 실험이 성공하자 핵무기에대한 전략적인 우위의 상실을 우려했던 소련 당국이 이 위성의 개발자인 바트케인 박사를 납치하게 되었고, 박사가 납치되었다는 사실을 알게된 미국은 위성의 기밀누설을 우려하게되어 박사가 소련으로 들어가기전에 조치를 취해야 했는데, 박사를 태우고 소련으로 가고 있던 알파급 잠수함을 잡기위해 핵어뢰를 사용하여 격침시키게 됩니다. 이 일을 계기로 소련에서는 강경파인 브가린 국방장관이 미국이 레이저요격위성을 실용화하기 전에 핵미사일로 수천만명을 날려버리면 미국도 스스로 굴복하게 될것이라고 역설을 하였지만, 온건파 서기장인 오르로후는 이런 강경파의 목소리를 억누르고 있었습니다.

지구로부터 220만 광년이나 떨어진 안드로메다 성운에 있는 풍요로운 자연에 둘러싸인 아름다운 행성 아스트리아스. 아스트리아스 별의 왕자 이타카는 공주 리리아를 왕비로 맞이하게 되지만 두 사람의 행복은 그리 오래가지 못한다. 고도로 발달된 문명을 가지고 있는 외우주에서 마더 머신 이라고 불리는 컴퓨터가 행성을 침략하기 시작한 것인데 사람들은 기계에 의해서 영혼을 빼앗기고 코스모라리아 제국은 점차 나라 전체가 컴퓨터에게 침식이 되어간다. 한편 임신을 한 리리아 왕비는 지무사와 아프트라는 쌍둥이 남매를 낳게 되고, 나라를 도망쳐 나온 두 남매는 여러 차례 운명의 장난과 마주하면서도 여검사인 이루와 함께 기계들에게 맞서 싸우게 되면서 안드로메다 스토리즈 스토리는 이어진다.

무대는 지금으로부터 머나먼 미래. 인류는 기술 발전의 폐해로 환경 파괴에 의해 멸망해 가는 지구를 재생시키기 위해 식민행성으로 이주했다. 컴퓨터 관리에 의해 정연히 살아가는 인류. 그 중에서 돌연변이로 탄생한 특수한 능력을 지닌 '뮤'라는 존재는 소외당한다. 가혹하게 탄압당하는 뮤들은 정부의 눈에서 벗어나 숨을 죽이면서도 자신들의 존재의의를 생각하며 지구로의 귀환을 꿈꾸고 있었다. 뮤의 리더인 솔저 블루는 아타락시아에 사는 소년 죠미를 자신의 후계자로 고르고 그 꿈을 계승시킨다. "고향인 지구로 돌아간다..." 그런 강렬한 소망을 품은 그들의 지구를 향하는 싸움이 시작된다. 모체의 출산이라는 현상을 거부하고 인공적이며 계획적으로 인간을 탄생시키는 SD(Superior Dominance) 체제. 핏줄로 이어지지 않은 가정 내에서 양육된 아이들은 14살이 되면 성인식을 치르고, 그 이후에는 어린 시절에 대한 기억이 희미해져 그 공백을 그랜드 마더로 통칭되는 체제에 대한 충성심으로 메우게 된다. 교육과정을 통해 아이를 기르거나, 정부요원 내지 군인이 되거나, 전문적인 기술자가 되는 길로 갈리며, 각각의 부류는 서로 다른 행성에서 생활하여 전체적인 교류가 적다.

로버트 루이스 스티븐슨 원작의 을 주인공을 제외하고 동물 캐릭터로 의인화시킨 작품. 토에이 창립 20주년 기념작이자, 실질적인 토에이 극장 아니메 제1기를 마감하는 작품으로 전성기 시절의 A형 대작 스태프들이 최후의 심혈을 기울여 완성했다. 특히 에서의 대활약으로 이케다 히로시 감독에게 신임을 얻은 미야자키 하야오가 더 많은 범위에 걸쳐 자신의 색깔을 담아 놓게 되는데, 비밀을 지닌 여주인공과 미워할 수 없는 악당이 등장하는 미야자키식 인물 설정 구도도 이 작품에서 처음으로 엿보이기 시작한다.

The ruler of the underground world, is planning to conquer the whole world. Riding the fire dragon Isamu and Angel, the princess of the undersea kingdom, try to stop him from destorying their world.

Hayato's home city is under attack from a gigantic robot. His parents are lying dead in the rubble and the only remaining friend is his dog. His only thought now is revenge against the owner of the Phantom Ship (from where the robot said he was sent). He ends up in the house of Kuroshio, the leader of the fight against the Phantom Ship and the most important person in the city. By complete accident, Hayato finds his way to an underground passageway where he realises that the true nature of events does not mesh with what Kuroshio has told him. His life is now in great danger, and only he can stop the plans of the evildoers.
