우주로 진출한 지구인들은 파충류 외계생물체인 드레그들과 영토 확장을 위한 치열한 전투를 계속한다. 교전중 조정사 데비는 황폐한 혹성에 불시착하게 되는데, 그 미개발지에 역시 우주선의 고장으로 남아있던 드레그와 맞부닥치게 된다. 서로 적대 관계였던 두 종족은 살아남아야 한다는 공동 목표하에 기묘한 우정을 쌓아나가게 된다. 결국 드레그는 죽게 되고 데비는 남겨진 아기 드레그를 돌보며 드레그와의 약속을 지키려한다.

어머니가 돌아가신 바스티안(Bastian : 바렛 올리버 분)은 상상력이 풍부하고 몽상을 좋아하는 국민학생이다. 등교길에 못된 아이들에게 시달리게 되자 어느 서점에 숨게 됐는데 거기서 '끝없는 이야기(The Neverending Story)'라는 아주 이상한 책을 발견하게 된다. 바스티안은 그 책을 가지고 나와 학교 다락에서 읽기 시작한다. '환타젠'이라는 환상의 세계에 나씽이라는 괴물에 의해 점차 호수와 산들이 하루 아침에 없어지고 있었다. 이곳에 살고 있는 수 많은 종족들이 공포에 떨고 있고, 이것을 여왕 '천진한 소녀'에게 보고키 위해 요귀와 난쟁이가 길을 떠난다. 하지만 여왕은 이름 모를 병에 죽어가고 있는데, 여왕의 병을 고칠 방법을 찾기 위해 소년 아트레이유(Atreyu : 노아 해서웨이 분)가 단신으로 구세주를 찾아 기나긴 여행길에 오른다. 근심의 늪에서 애마 알텍스도 잃고, 펠콘(Falkor)이라는 행운의 용을 타고 마침내 거울문에 당도한다. 그곳에는 진실된 인간의 아이 바로 책을 읽고 있는 바스티안의 모습이 비친다. 그리고 여왕의 병을 고치기 위해서는 인간 세상의 아이가 여왕의 새로운 이름을 지어주어야 된다는 비법을 알게 된다. 아트레유는 환타젠을 구할 수 있는 인간의 아이를 데리러 가기 위해 환상의 나라의 끝으로 날아가지만 폭풍에 휘말려 펠콘에서 떨어진다. 아트레유는 동굴 속에서 나씽의 부하 괴물을 처치하지만 결국 환타젠을 구할 임무를 완수하지 못하는데...

성공한 사업가인 피터와 카타리나 부부는 아이도 없고 서로 각자의 생활에 치여 바쁘게 살아간다. 이미 식어버린 아내에 대한 사랑의 돌파구를 찾지 못해 항상 정신적으로 억압된 인생을 살아가는 피터는 아내를 죽이는 꿈을 꾸곤 한다. 정상적인 통로로는 욕구불만을 해소할 수 없게 된 피터는 어느 날 우연히 알게된 사람을 통해 창녀 하나를 소개받고 그녀를 찾아간다. 그녀의 이름은 카타리나. 피터는 창녀의 이름이 자신이 그토록 죽이고 싶어하는 아내의 이름과 똑같는 이유로 감춰진 분노를 표출하며 창녀를 강간한 뒤 살해한다.

The intertwined lives of people of both Polish and German extraction who live on the pre-World War II border between the two countries are explored in this drama. Valeska is the Polish/German matriarch of a family living on the German side of the border. Her son is involved with the Hitler youth, but nonetheless keeps secret the presence on family land of a Jew who is hiding from the authorities. When the son inadvertently kills a soldier to prevent his sister from being raped, he runs away after borrowing money from the Jewish man. When soldiers come to the family's door looking for the missing soldier who had been billeted there, the Jewish man commits suicide. In another episode, one of the family's daughters marries a German soldier in a ceremony presided over by a Polish priest.

General George S. Patton died in a car accident in 1945. However, now speculates that his death was actually a murder carefully prepared by his staff to cover a large theft of gold.

1923년 서커스단에서 형 맥스와 함께 공중 곡예사로 있던 아벨은 맥스가 손목을 다치게 되자 서커스를 포기하고 독일의 베를린까지 흘러 들어와 술로 세월을 보내고 있습니다. 그 시절 베를린의 분위기는 극심한 경제난 때문에 아주 음습하고 무거움 그 자체이다. 독일 국민들은 육체적, 정신적으로 피폐해져 있고 마르크화의 가치는 종잇장보다 못했으며 나치즘과 파시즘을 비롯한 여러 공포정치 때문에 아주 어지럽고 복잡한 시절이었다. 그러던 어느 날 맥스가 갑작스럽게 자살을 하자 아벨은 큰 상실감에 빠지게 된다. 더군다나 자신과 아주 조금씩이 나나 관련이 있던 7명의 사람들이 시체로 발견되자 큰 충격과 공포 그리고 의문에 휩싸이게 되는데.. 이에 정신적인 고통에 시달리는 아벨은....
