Dramatisation of Jean Rhys's novel set in 19th-century Jamaica. The tragic story of the first Mrs Rochester from Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre centres on an arranged marriage between a white Creole heiress and a brooding Englishman, who fall in love only to be torn apart by rumours, paranoia and a cultural divide.

앙트와넷의 가족은 자마이카에 정착해 사는 부농이다. 아버지가 죽자 어머니는 부유한 영국 상인과 결혼하지만 원주민과의 갈등으로 불안해 하던중 그들의 폭동으로 앙트와넷의 집은 불에 타고 동생이 죽고 만다. 또한 양아버지는 어머니를 영국으로 데려가 정신병동에 집어넣는데, 어머니는 그곳에서 외롭게 죽어간다. 세월이 흘러 앙트와넷은 양아버지의 죽음으로 재산을 물려받음과 동시에 양아버지가 소개한 에드먼드라는 남자를 알게 되어 그와 결혼한다. 그러나 재산을 탐내고 있는 에드먼드는 숲속의 생활을 지겨워하고, 이때 하녀 에밀리가 그에게 접근한다. 앙트와넷의 충실한 보모 크리스는 에밀리의 접근을 막으려 애쓰지만 에드먼드는 간섭하는 크리스를 못마땅해 하면서 앙트와넷과 에드먼드, 크리스의 갈등은 깊어간다.

Tigers are Better Looking is an adaptation of a short story by Jean Rhys. In the film, Shariffe directs his view towards exile in Europe, showing the wide disparity between North and South. The film contrasts two different civilisations, the homeland, Sudan, and the country of exile, Great Britain. Through poetic abstractions the director manages to portray the strong sense of exile and the longing for the homeland.
