72가구의 세입자라는 제목대로 엄청난 출연진들이 나와 세입자들의 애환을 코믹하게 그리고 있다. 과거에 친구였던 두 사람이 사랑하는 한 여인을 사이에 두고 20여 년간을 원수처럼 지내는데 그들의 아들 딸은 서로 사랑하는 사이가 된다. 두 친구를 둘러싼 소소한 싸움이 웃음을 준다.

명석한 두뇌에 뛰어난 외모의 샘(유덕화)은 홍콩 최고의 백만장자 사업가다. 모든 것을 가진 그이지만, 3번의 이혼이 말해주듯 사랑만큼은 마음대로 되지 않는다. 샘은 사업차 방문한 마카오에서 가난하지만 인생을 즐길 줄 아는 당찬 매력의 클럽 댄서 밀란(서기)을 만나 첫 눈에 반한다. 우연히 만난 두 사람은 달콤한 사랑을 키워가지만 행복한 순간도 잠시, 이들의 교제 사실이 알려지자 홍콩 사교계는 발칵 뒤집힌다. 밀란이 상류층 여자로서의 덕목을 배우는 동안, 샘 주변의 사람들은 두 사람의 관계를 의심 가득한 눈초리로 바라본다. 결국 샘은 주위 사람들의 강요에 못 이겨 혼전 계약서를 내밀고 상처받은 밀란은 샘을 떠나고 만다. 이제 샘은 사업과 사랑 사이에서 일생일대의 결정을 내려야만 하는데…

Pu Pu is dumped by her boyfriend whom she loves. Before she moves out, she asks to listen to "their song" just one more time, that is the hidden track by Jay Chou. Then she leaves him and goes to her sister's place in Hong Kong. All the while she is there, she searches for the same song, the "hidden track", and from this it leads her onto a journey of discovering love and a new beginning. Despite the whole movie revolving around Jay Chou's song, Jay Chou plays only a cameo part.

Miriam Yeung plays a half-Chinese who represents her father (a Shaolin monk who defected to Japan after falling in love with a Japanese) at a martial arts tournament. What she really wants is to experience first love (with Ekin Cheng, a marketing executive) and become a movie star. Both which are fulfilled in her stay in Hong Kong.
