때는 쇼토쿠 1711~1716년, 남자들의 얼굴에 붉은 반점이 일어나 결국 죽음에 이르는 이른바 '적면포창'이 유행하고, 남자의 수는 급격히 감소. 남녀의 입장은 역전되었다. 이는 오오쿠도 다르지 않았고, 쇼군 또한 여성이 대를 잇기 시작, 오오쿠는 여성이 아닌 미남자들로 가득차기 시작했다. 유노신은 가정이 어려워 좋아하는 여성을 고향에 남겨둔채 녹봉을 받는 오오쿠에 들어간다. 하지만 오오쿠는 남자들의 온갖 권모술수가 난무하는 곳이었다. 유노신 또한 오오쿠 내의 겁탈과 협박에 틈에서 힘겨워한다. 곧은 심성의 유노신은 그런 가운데에서 쇼군에 눈에 들어 그녀의 고나이쇼(첫잠자리 상대자)가 된다. 하지만 고나이쇼는 참형에 처하는 오오쿠의 법도가 있는데.....

This story is based on the novel "Jo no mai" by Tomiko Miyao which is based on the life of painter Shōen Uemura (1875–1949), the first woman to be awarded the Order of Culture. The title refers to the masterpiece bijinga ("picture of a beautiful woman") that Uemura painted at the age of 61. The main character, Tsuya Shimamura, is born in Kyoto as the second daughter of a tea trader who dies before her birth. Tsuya, who loves painting more than anything and is hopeless at housework, attends art school and at age 15 receives the name Shōsui (from the characters for "pine" and "green") from her teacher. The crown prince of England purchases one of her works, propelling her to fame overnight. The novel portrays the remainder of her stormy life, during which she is impregnated by her teacher and raises a fatherless child; through it all she devotes herself to her painting, undaunted.

살해당한 여자의 유골을 거두려고 신주쿠에 온 오키나와 이시가키 섬의 형사. 그러나 그는 그곳에서 연예계의 소용돌이치는 음모에 연루되는데... 흉악범죄 전문 경찰청 특수범죄 수사과, 통칭 "특범과" 소속 카노 조지. 강력 범죄자를 매번 사살하는 카노를 언론과 세상은 비난하지만 본인은 상관치 않는다. 극악 범죄자에게는 비정한 카노인데, 어린이나 노인, 갱생하는 경범죄자에게는 물론 살인 등 과거에 무거운 죄를 짊어진 범죄자도 사정에 따라서는 일자리 등을 봐주거나 하는 착한 면도 있다. 당초는 카노와 그 상사인 특범과장 니시타니 경시 2명뿐이었다. 특범과로 신주쿠 경찰서에 온 폭력단 담당 형사 미야타, 여형사의 미모리, 여경 아야카와 사키, 미국에서 온 캬티·쿠라사와 등의 멤버가 추가된다. 특범과는 강력범죄 전문이지만 특히 각 과가 경원시하는 사건을 담당한다. 원작은 "주간 소년 점프"에 연재된 인기 극화이지만 영화에서는 극화되기 이전 주인공의 서막 편을 담고 있다.

Zenjiro (Masaru Shiga) is a lowlife criminal, roaming the country with his merry band of crooks, gamblers and rapists. When he gets done with his latest escapade of banging a samurai's wife, he finds that his love Okoyo (Eiko Matsuda), has managed to be recruited as one of Shogun Tokugawa Ietsuna's (Kantaro Suga) concubines. While attempting to win her back, Zenjiro becomes involved in increasingly murderous palace intrigues.

Midori Satsuki stars as a vamp who destroys one poor man’s life after another. Finally she seduces a professional killer, which brings a tiny bit of action into the comedy oriented film. Being a Toei production, Mantis Wife’s Confession looks like real movie rather than a cheap exploitation production. Unfortunately the storyline is running circles, and there’s little to get excited about. A couple of good jokes make you laugh a few times, and one surprise has found its way into the film; Ema Ryoko plays a housewife. She gets into a fight, but her shirt stays on and doesn’t even get ripped.

Monjiro, reunited with his long lost sister, is pursued by a yakuza gang because he killed their boss. He also meets a fellow gambler who idolizes Monjiro. The gambler and Monjiro's sister are pulled into a conspiracy to get to Monjiro, but do things go as planned?

Fujiko wanders aimlessly through the country, seeking vengence on the man she onced loved, who betrayed her, and destroying her family and her life. When she discovers that man had already died, she loses her will to live. But in a twist of fate, she meets Tatsumi, a raising star in the Horikawa Family. She quickly falls in love with him and his yakuza lifstyle. But when Tatsumi is chosen to but the next Boss of the family, his jealous sworn brother Morito kills him with the help of a mysterious man behind the scenes. Now Fujiko becomes a Bakuto, a wandering yakuza gambler, and once again, walks the bloody path of vengence...

A local yakuza boss of a silk farming town shows kindness to the wandering gambler Oryu by letting her stay at his residence. When a rival yakuza gang, who wants to take over the town's businesses, murders him, Oryu is obliged to protect his children and business.
