사립학교의 엘리트 학생인 로버트는 우연히 두 동급생의 죽음을 카메라에 담는다. 안전할 것만 같았던 학교가 학생들의 죽음으로 술렁이고, 로버트의 영상은 충격을 치유하기 위해 사용된다. 그러나 이 이미지는 학생과 교사들에게 오히려 불안과 망상을 불러일으킨다. 로버트는 뉴욕 사립고등학교 학생이지만 내향적인 성격 때문에 친구들과 어울리기보다는 동영상 촬영과 인터넷에 몰두한다. 하지만 그가 학교의 인기 쌍둥이 자매의 비극적 죽음을 카메라에 우연히 담게 되면서 영화는 기성세대의 위선, 마약문제, 소통부재, 훔쳐보기 중독 등 복잡한 이슈들을 예리하게 제시하는 폭로와 성찰의 장이 되어 간다. 칸 레지던스 프로그램의 일환으로 진행된 이 문제작은, 청소년 시기에 관한 단편영화들을 주로 만들어온 캄포스 감독의 데뷔작답게 날카로우면서도 지극히 사실적이다. 특히 학우들의 폭력현장이나 안타까운 죽음마저도, 적극적으로 수습해야 하는 사건이 아니라 몰래 카메라와 인터넷을 통한 스펙터클로 변질되는 현상에 대한 감독의 경종은 오싹하다. 은 모두를 이어주는 인터넷이 소통의 도구가 아니라 오히려 서로를 소외시키고 객체화 시키는 수단으로 남용될 때 닥쳐올 파국을 알리는, 결코 외면할 수 없는 경고장이다. 우리는 마지막 쇼트에서 어디선가 자신을 훔쳐보는 카메라를 감지한 로버트의 그 공포스런 표정을 잊어서는 안 된다.
