(2018년 제23회 부산국제영화제) 경찰에 의해 자행된 아프리카계 미국인들에 대한 폭력이 미국 전역에 충격을 주었던 2017년 여름, 미국 남부의 아프리카계 미국인 커뮤니티는 뿌리 깊은 인종차별과 폭력에 대해 분노의 목소리를 높인다. 2015년 으로 부산을 찾았던 이탈리아 출신 다큐멘터리 감독 로베르토 미네르비니는 신작 을 통해 다시 한번 미국 사회의 또 다른 이면에 주목한다. 영화는 미국 남부에 사는 아프리카계 미국인들의 다양한 이야기와 그들의 주변을 비추며 뿌리 깊은 인종차별의 역사가 이들 개개인의 삶에 얼마나 깊숙이 침투해 있는지, 그 폭력이 가져온 상처와 공포가 얼마나 엄청난지 차분히 들려준다. 흑백 화면에 담긴 다양한 연령과 그만큼 다양한 상처를 가진 인물들은 소박한 꿈을 가진 평범한 이웃이다. 영화는 이들의 어제와 오늘에 기입된 인종차별의 기억과 상처를 가까운 거리에서 바라보고 귀 기울이면서, 관객들로 하여금 액티비스트의 구호로서가 아니라 내 이웃의 현실을 경험하듯 광인의 세계에서나 벌어질 듯한 사회적 폭력과 대면하게끔 이끈다.
