돈 가방을 훔쳐 달아나던 아민은 경찰에 체포되기 직전 언덕 위에 구덩이를 파고 돈가방을 묻는다. 몇 년 후 출소해 돈가방을 찾으러 간 아민은 그 자리에 성전이 세워진 것을 보게 된다. 사람들은 그 곳을 최근 발굴된 ‘이름 없는 성자의 무덤’으로 부르며 경배하고 있다. 멀리서 성지순례를 오는 사람들로 인해 언덕 아래에는 새로운 마을이 형성되어 있고, 아민은 돈가방을 찾을 기회를 노리며 마을에 머물기 시작한다. 어이없는 상황이 주는 헛웃음으로 시작한 영화는 마을 속 다양한 사람들과 그들의 관계를 통해 사막지역 사람들의 삶의 단면을 예리한 시선으로 보여준다. 그들의 삶은 더 나아가 신앙과 자본, 가족 등의 가치가 뒤섞여 변화하고 있는 오늘날 세상의 가치를 담고 있기도 하다. 가볍지만 결코 가볍지 않은 영리한 코미디로, 2019년 칸 영화제 비평가주간에 상영됐다

자원봉사자인 젠(제니이라 퐁파스)은 잠들어 있는 병사들이 있는 곳에 있다. 어느 날 옆 침대에 있는 깽을 만난 젠은 그녀가 잠든 병사들의 생각을 읽는 능력을 가지고 있다는 말을 듣게 된다. 깽과 대화를 하며 그녀의 능력에 대해 좀 더 알고 싶은 젠. 그러던 중 자신이 간호를 하던 잇(반롭 롬노이)이 깨어나고 젠은 그와 많은 대화를 나누게 된다. 하지만 곧 다시 잠이 들어 버린 잇. 젠은 그가 다시 깨어나고, 자신과 가족의 안녕을 빌게 된다. 며칠 후 병원 밖에서 간식을 들고 있던 젠에게 두 명의 여인들이 찾아온다. 그녀들은 자신들이 신들이라고 말하며 병사들이 잠들어 있는 곳은 실은 죽은 왕들의 무덤이 있는 곳이라 알려주며, 병사들이 잠들어 있는 이유는 바로 왕들이 병사들을 자신들의 전쟁에 가져다 쓰기 때문이라는 사실도 젠에 알려주게 되는데...

Riad, a middle-aged man, holds a firearm shop in a neighbourhood of Beirut. When he meets up with his friends or goes hunting with them, it is often with the aim of evoking together their memories of the civil war fought in the Christian militia. They live in nostalgia for the war that impassioned their youth. Director Myriam El Hajj builds solid architectural images that interrogate — and, perhaps, over time even manage to articulate — the intimate origins of violence that never seems to depart and a past that doesn't want to let go of the present.

Each morning Beirut awakens to a new murder seemingly committed by a serial killer, with victims found emptied of their blood. At the same time a doctor, Khalil, begins to experience strange symptoms that destabilise him and transform his life. A connection slowly emerges that seems to link Khalil to these victims. Salhab’s body of films have come to narrate the state of Lebanon – and Beirut in particular – during and after the civil war, and this film is no exception.
