A quintet is an omnibus feature told from the perspective of five international up and coming filmmakers who are searching to find identity in the modern world. The five segments are : "Polaroid" by Roberto Cuzzillo; "Friend Request" by Elie Lamah; "The Cuddle Workshop" by Mauro Mueller; "The House in the Envelope" by Sanela Salketic; and "The Tourist" by Ariel Shaban.

1976년 버베리안 사운드 스튜디오는 이탈리아에서 가장 싸고 낙후된 포스트 프로덕션 스튜디오다. 지저분한 호러 영화들만 이 곳에서 음향을 만들고 다듬을 따름이다. 순진하고 내성적인 영국 출신의 사운드 엔지니어 길더로이는 호러영화의 거장 산티니의 최근작 음향 믹싱 작업을 맡는다. 순수하게 작업하는 지역 다큐멘터리 세계에서 낯설고 말도 안 되는 악조건에서 일할 수밖에 없는 환경으로 내동댕이쳐진 길더로이는 가증스러운 여배우들, 변덕스러운 기술자들, 뒤죽박죽인 관료제도 같은 금지된 세계에 말려든다. 비명과 소름 끼치는 소리 등을 만들어내고 믹싱하는 작업을 계속할수록 길더로이는 고향인 도킹의 집 마당에 있는 자신의 스튜디오가 점점 더 그리워진다. 그 와중에 어머니가 보내오는 편지는 시시한 일상에 관한 내용과 심상치 않은 히스테리 상태를 넘나든다. 그리고 이는 점차 산티니 감독 영화의 검은 마술 같은 모습을 띤다. 시간이 흐르고 현실도 바뀌면서 길더로이는 음향과 개인적 혼돈이 빚어내는 공상의 소용돌이 속에서 자신을 상실하고 만다. 길더로이는 스크린 안팎으로 과도한 업무에 시달리는 환경에서 살아남기 위해서 자신 속에 감춰진 악마와 대면해야 하는 상황에 처한다.
