Spain, the era of dictator Franco. Two female teachers are in love, but in those years and in that regime the love is not only forbidden but also a crime. To avoid their child been in prison, the parents of the one teacher, force her to be confined in a clinic for mental diseases, where she is heavily abused, the main treatment been electroshocks. After Franco's fall, and the change of things, she is free to return to her home, under the surveillance of her mother. Her father, more compassionate, helps her escape and find her lover. But the years of been under electroshocks have damaged her health, and make it impossible to live a normal life.

남편이 환생했다는 소년을 만나게 된 젊은 미망인 ‘애나’에게 일어나는 미스터리한 일들을 그린 영화 젊은 나이에 사랑하는 남편을 잃은 애나. 이제 그 슬픔을 이기고 자신을 사랑해주는 조셉과 결혼을 하려고 한다. 그러나 애나의 어머니 생일에 나타난 한 꼬마 아이. 10살짜리 꼬마 숀은 애나에게 자신이 죽은 그녀의 남편 숀이라며 조셉과 결혼하지 말라고 말한다. 이 황당한 아이의 말을 모두들 장난이라며 웃어넘기지만, 계속되는 꼬마의 믿을 수 없는 행동과 말들에 애나는 조금씩 마음이 흔들리기 시작하는데...

폭풍우가 내리치는 밤. 피 묻은 어머니의 시신 옆에 쇼크 상태에 빠진 소녀가 발견된다. 젊고 아름다운 정신과의사 베아트리체는 최면요법으로 유명한 한 요양소에 일자리를 얻게 된다. 마을과 한참 외떨어진 이 요양소에서 가장 먼저 그녀의 눈에 들어온 환자는 바로 폭풍우가 있던 밤의 그 소녀. 베아트리체는 그녀를 돕고 싶었지만 어느 날 소녀가 자살한 시체로 발견되면서 소망은 사라진다. 한편 기억상실증으로 고통 받는 환자 미구엘은 치료 중 소녀가 자살한 것이 아니며 그녀 자신도 조심하라는 말을 전하는데, 의심에 찬 베아트리체는 이 요양소에서 많은 사람들이 자살했던 사실을 알게 된다. 미구엘을 상담 치료하던 중 급격히 불안정해진 베아트리체의 심리는 환상과 현실이 뒤섞이면서 더욱더 혼란으로 빠져 들어가고...
