Chile, 1976. Carmen heads off to her beach house to supervise its renovation. Her husband, children and grandchildren come back and forth during the winter vacation. When the family priest asks her to take care of a young man he is sheltering in secret, Carmen steps onto unexplored territories, away from the quiet life she is used to.

Three friends are part of a fascist opposition group in the chaotic Chile of the early 70's and together commit a political crime that changes the history of the country and incidentally involves them in a betrayal that separates them forever.

자폐아 마르틴은 매일 알 수 없는 기이한 행동과 폭력적인 행동으로 주위는 물론 엄마 디아나까지 당황하게 한다. 또한 둘째를 가진 그녀는 마르틴과 같은 아이를 낳게 될까 연일 불안해 하며 하루하루를 보낸다. 어느 날, 마트 진열대에 머리를 부딪히는 마르틴을 말 몇 마디로 저지하는 필리핀 점원 루스를 만나고 이에 호감을 느낀 디아나는 그녀에게 보모 자리를 제안한다. 루스가 그녀의 집에 온 이후 마르틴의 증세는 빠르게 호전되고 디아나의 가족에게 평화가 찾아오는 듯했다. 어느 날 디아나는 마르틴이 자신을 경계하고 공격적으로 변해 가는 것을 목격하고 필리핀 보모인 루스를 의심하게 되는데… 이후 그녀의 낮과 밤은 지옥으로 변해가고 현실과 환영의 경계 속에서 알 수 없는 일들을 겪게 되는데…
