Dr. Ichito works at Honjo Hospital. His longtime friend Dr. Tatsuya Shindo, who comes from Tokyo, begins working at Honjo Hospital. In their university days, Tatsuya was referred to as "the conscience of the medical school". Ichito notices a difference in Tatsuya now, as he leaves work on time. Then, Ichito's senior colleague Dr. Nukita collapses.

Aizawa Miharu (Takeuchi Yuko) receives an order to work for Cherry's Airlines from major airline. Cherry's Airlines is a low cost, budget carrier. The concept for Cherry's Airlines is to provide little to no service, all for the lowest cost to the passenger. Miharu struggles with her new job, because she is trained to provide excellant service from her previous company. Miharu begins to feel gloomy from struggling with her amateur colleagues and against the low cost policy of her company. Nevertheless, Miharu works hard for Cherry's Airlines first flight.

Four people decide to travel to Hunza, Pakistan to find paradise. Kentaro Tooma works as head of sales for a camera company. One of his clients is Jujo Togashi who owns the shop Camera Togashi. The two men are friends and become captivated by a picture with only a chair sitting in a field of grass. Kentaro and Jujo know of a 4-year-old boy Keisuke through Kentaro's eldest daughter. 4-year-old Keisuke is traumatized from being abused by his mother. Kishiko Shinohara is the owner of an antique shop. Kentaro Tooma has feelings for her.

One day, Dr. Ichito Kuriharai clears out the belongings of a terminal cancer patient who passed away. During this time, he discovers a letter made out to him thanking him for the care he provided to her, even though he could not cure her sickness. Sci-fi writer Sakutaro (Tsuyoshi Kusanagi) and bank employee Setsuko (Yuko Takeuchi) met at as high school freshmen during their summer vacation. Since that time, the couple has always been together and eventually married.One day, Setsuko complains of a stomach ache and is hospitalized. Sakutaro then learns that his wife has colon cancer. Sakutaro takes the advice from his doctor that laughter helps the immune system and proceeds to write a short story for his wife every day. At first, Setsuko was expected to live for only 1 more year, but she lived for 5 more years and Sakutaro eventually wrote 1,778 short stories for his wife.

High school student Mio (Mari Iriki) lives in Kagoshima. Since her novelist father was lost, she has refused to go to school and lived on her father's yacht, which is anchored at a dock. Kiyomi (Asami Tanaka) likes yachting, because of her father's influence back in her childhood days. During a practicing yachting, Kiyomi lost her friend and she also quit her special yachting school. Kiyomi then transfers to a regular high school. Finally, these two girls meet.
