After being violently pushed from a window, Mary wakes up in the hospital, almost completely paralyzed. 맥스(타이사 파미가)의 엄마 아맨다 카트라이트(말린 애커맨)는 1980년대 출연했던 공포영화 ‘피바다 캠프’를 대표작으로 남긴 채 교통사고로 세상을 떠난다. 그로부터 3년 후, 맥스는 친구의 오빠인 공포영화광 던컨이 개최한 ‘피바다 캠프’ 추모 상영회에 마지못해 참석한다. 그런데 영화 상영 중에 극장에서 화재가 발생하고, 맥스와 친구들은 영화의 배경과 똑같은 1986년의 숲속 캠프장에서 깨어난다. 그곳에서 맥스 일행은 아맨다가 역할을 맡은 낸시와 최후까지 살아남는 ‘파이널 걸’ 폴라 등 자신들이 관람하던 영화 속 주인공들과 만나게 된다. 비로소 ‘피바다 캠프’ 영화 속에 갇혔다는 사실을 깨달은 맥스 일행은 곧바로 살인마 빌리의 표적이 되어 쫓긴다. 이들은 영화처럼 폴라가 빌리를 죽일 때를 기다리지만, 도리어 폴라가 빌리에게 죽음을 당하는데...
