Nam Pae-chun comes to China from Koryo. By chance, he rescues a man named Gu Gu-hwa who came across and stole the Suri sword belonging to Ma Cheon-san. This is the first starring role I've seen Casanova Wong play. He and the film's producers seem to be paying homage to Toshiro Mifune, Clint Eastwood, Jimmy Wang Yu et al. Casa is very much the taciturn, serious lone man on a mission. He is always focussed, apparently calm, until he explodes into action.

A General hopes to restore the Ching Dynasty after China has become a republic. Carter Wong stars as Commissioner Yao Tien Shan who learns of a plot by General Na Lan Tien Hsiung (Chen Sing) to restore the Chings to power with the help of Lord Lo, whose daughter Wan Ying (Doris Chen/Lung Chun Erh) is sympathetic to the new government. 송나라 무예계의 총수인 달마법왕은 범대해를 포함한 제자들과 일본인 가등풍진과 손을 잡고 각 계파의 무술 비법을 탈취해 나가던 중 고려의 무술인 태견의 비법을 알아내기 위해 고진풍을 찾아간다. 고진풍은 제자 최청을 송나라 사찰의 승려인 보진에게 보내고 그들과 싸우다 숨진다. 보진을 찾아간 최청은 달마 패들의 비겁한 수단에 눈을 잃은 보진에게 태견을 전수받지만, 보진은 끝내 그들에게 목숨을 잃는다. 한편 태견의 비법을 소장하고 있는 선광사에 가짜 중 여연을 잠입시키고, 또 가등풍진을 잠입시킨 달마법왕은 승려 보법을 잡아 태견비법과 교환할 것을 요구하나, 최청은 무술 승려들과 강호, 강룡을 대동하고 그들의 무예본부로 쳐들어가 보법을 구출하고 달마와 그들 패들을 격퇴하고 귀국한다.

을사보호조약으로 국권을 일본에게 뺏기자 고종은 국권회복을 위해 금과 군자금을 이용익에게 시켜 은장시키나 고종이 강제퇴위되자 군대는 해산된다. 이때 군인의 본분을 지켜 장렬히 자결한 박성환의 딸 소춘과 의병들은 동산방에 모인다. 동산방의 주지 동산대는 우국지사로 호국불권을 완성하여 의병출신의 신도에게 전수한다. 그 가운데 민정교와 소춘은 사랑을 하게 되고 일찌기 정혼한 사이인 그들은 이용익이 은닉한 금이 일본인에게 강탈당하자 대승구국의 대열에서 활약한다. 금을 가지고 돌아가는 일본군들을 습격한 길목에서 싸우다 민정교등 동산방의 의사들이 죽게 되면서 일인들의 기를 꺾고는 금을 탈환해 민족적 국권 회복에 정진한다.

거암은 박상봉에게 무술을 배우려 하나 허락을 못받았다. 그는 상봉의 딸과 사랑하는 사이였으나 쫓겨나고 만다. 일본인을 만나 무술을 배운 그는 그들의 앞에 서서 무서운 솜씨로 일본침략을 용이하게 한다. 상봉은 거암의 이런 소식을 듣고 괴로와한다. 사실 거암은 자기 친구의 아들인데 친구의 유언대로 평범한 농부로 키우고싶어 무술을 전수시키지 않은 것이다. 상봉의 딸 옥녀와 제자 일재는 거암을 찾는다. 드디어 옥녀는 그와 만나 모든 것을 밝힌다. 방황하다가 한민족임을 받아드리기로 한 거암. 자신이 충성하던 일본인을 유인해 없애고 자신의 양손도 스스로 못쓰도록 만든다. 이때 나타난 일재와 옥녀. 일재는 거암을 데려가려 하나 거암은 거부하고 결국 본의아닌 다툼 끝에 두손을 못쓰는 거암은 죽게 된다. 흐느끼는 옥녀와 돌아서는 일재.

신라 문무왕은 부처의 힘을 빌어 왜구와 북쪽 오랑캐를 극복하려는 뜻에서 호국선사 함흥사를 창건한다. 본당 대웅전에 안치한 관음보살상의 정수에 박힌 보석은 천하의 보물로 알려진다. 그 후 고려 말기에 이르러 왜구들이 그 보석을 훔쳐 원나라에 보내자 함흥사 주지 혜초는 제자 금란을 원에 밀파하여 극락 지성을 찾아오게 한다. 이에 장락원 장주 윤정, 원나라를 부흥하려는 모임인 천지회의 단심, 소림사 계율장 당주 당호구, 고려 유민들과 합세한 박금란 등의 4파전이 벌어지는데 마침내 금란이 극락지성을 찾아 고려로 돌아온다.
