During the 1980 Gwangju uprising in South Korea, a Korean man and a second-generation Korean-Japanese woman meet during the student activist movement. Yoo Jung-Bae is the man that her mother fell in love with 30 years ago during the Gwangju uprising. During his college days, Yoo Jung-Bae was the leader of the student activist movement. Now he is transferred to an investment company in Tokyo. Mie works at the same investment company. Feeling a bond with Mie, Yoo Jung-Bae walks the streets of Tokyo with Mie every weekend and begins to learn about each other.

주인공 미유키가 쓰레기를 뒤지면서 분류하고 있다. 담배꽁초, 담배갑, 캔 등등. 카페에서 일하고 있는 그녀는 같은 아파트에 살고 있는 기타리스트 요시노리를 짝사랑하고 있다. 미유키는 요시노리의 모든 것을 알고자 그가 내다 버린 쓰레기를 저녁마다 뒤지며 요시노리의 사생활을 파악해 간다. 요시노리가 아침에 먹는 음식, 담배 그리고 그 주변의 여자들에 대해서. 그리고 그녀 또한 그와 같은 음식에 같은 담배를 피면서 그 주변의 여자들에게 질투심을 느끼면서 그에게 더 가까워진 듯한 느낌을 가진다. 그런 쓰레기 속에는 마치 자신의 사생활을 알려 주기라도 하듯이 모든 것들이 들어 있다. 쓰레기를 통해 미유키는 요시노리에 대한 상상의 세계를 펼치고 그 상상은 현실로 하나 둘 나타나기 시작한다.
