The beloved American musical that brought us “The Impossible Dream” turns its lens on modern love and society, especially as brought to the Playhouse stage by director Mark Lamos in our award-winning 2018 production. In this play within a play, Cervantes has not yet finished his manuscript for Don Quixote—he sits in jail awaiting trial during the Spanish Inquisition. Fourteen actors portraying Cervantes and his fellow prisoners bring to life the great odyssey we all know of a questing knight tilting at windmills and battling for the love of the fair maiden Aldonza.

"Man of the Mancha" tells the story of the "mad" knight Don Quixote as a play within a play, performed by Cervantes and his fellow prisoners as he awaits a hearing with the Spanish Inquisition. Television broadcast of the Liège production in French with German subtitles.

교회를 공격한 죄로 종교 재판에 회부되기 위해 투옥된 세르반테스(피터 오툴)가 감옥 안에서 죄수들에게 배역을 주어 이야기를 상연 하게 되는데...세르반테스는 준비해온 옛 갑옷과 투구를 챙겨 입고 가면을 쓴 채 돈키호테가 되어 영원한 하인 산초 함께 불가능한 꿈을 꾸면서 무사 수업을 떠나게 된다. 여행도중 거대한 풍차를 보고 악한 거인으로 보고 칼을 뽑아 들고 정면으로 돌진하며 공격하는 상황이나 시골주막을 큰 성으로 착각하고 그 곳에서 일하는 창녀 알돈자(소피아 로렌)를 이상적인 둘시네아 공녀로 받드는 상황들은 모두 세르반테스가 상연하는 판타지다.
