In this dramatic portrayal of the real-life gambling boss Jirocho, a good-hearted and honest boss sets out to take revenge for a fellow boss. Starring Kataoka Chiezo in one of his signature roles, this is an excellent portrayal of a figure who is not well known outside of Japan. The Kuroda Affair’s mise-en-scène is said to have influenced future Toei director Eiichi Kudo. The film also features two of the greatest stars of Japanese period cinema, Chiezo Kataoka and Ryutaro Otomo.

A family story in the year of 1943 during the war. The director is Shunkai Mizuho, who worked on "Hibari no Circus Sad Kobato" starring Hibari Misora after the war. Previously, there is only a 6-minute short version in the National Film Archive, therefore, the full version is this movie is very valuable. This is considered a masterpiece that depicts a happy family of 7 (a father, a mother, 3 sons and 2 daughters).They care about each other, and also trust each other. Father started to ask all the children "what do you want to be in the future?" since an early age. Boys said they want to go to college, they want to be painters, and when it comes to the girls, although they wanted to be generals, their answer was "become a bride, a wife, and a good mother." Brothers and sisters get along well and occasionally fight, but they all discuss the cause, and would apologize to each other. The story was so gentle that it is hard to believe it was during the war.

An older sister and brother (Mieko Takamine and Masayoshi Otsuka) come to visit their grandfather (Takeshi Sakamoto) who lives deep in the mountains. As for their parents, father was serving in the South Seas and mother died of illness on her way home. So, the brother, who is still young, will live alone with his grandfather whilst the sister goes away to study to become a teacher.

장님 안마사인 도쿠와 후쿠는 산중 휴양지에 일하러 가는 길이다. 두 사람은 소리만으로 몇 명의 아이들이 지나가는지 맞춰 보기도 하며 고갯길을 오른다. 때마침 두 사람 곁을 마차가 지나가고, 도쿠는 도쿄 여인의 향기가 났다며 미소 짓는다. 곧바로 일을 시작한 도쿠는 어떤 여인을 안마하게 되는데, 그는 낮에 맡았던 도쿄 여인의 향기를 알아본다. 한편, 여관 손님의 돈이 없어지는 사건이 발생하고, 수수께끼 같은 도쿄 여인이 의심을 받게 된다. 시미즈는 상황의 역전을 통해 갈등과 유머를 이끌어냈다. 여전히 시미즈 특유의 스타일이 돋보이는데, 특히나 걸으면서 이야기하는 트래킹 숏, 인물의 옆모습을 찍으며 움직이는 실내 트래킹 숏 등 모두 다른 방식으로 활용한 그의 카메라워크는 거장의 솜씨를 보여준다. 그리고 앞이 보이지 않는 도쿠의 시선이 떠나는 여인을 끝까지 따라가는 듯한 마지막 장면은 단연 최고의 명장면이다.
