원자력 발전소에서 승진을 꿈꾸며 열심히 근무해온 짐은 어느 날 갑자기 사장실에 불려가 해고된다.
차까지 견인돼서 집으로 돌아온 짐은 아내가 라이벌이었던 동료 댄과 바람을 피우는 장면을 목격하고 실의에 빠지고, 우연히 자신에게 친절한 데이브를 만나게 된다.
하지만 그는 야망이 큰 곤충학자로 유행처럼 번지고 있는 모기 바이러스의 백신을 개발하기 위해 짐에게 인체 실험을 하게 되는데...
