Christmas – usually not the favourite holiday of the atheist Wanda, a surgeon and feminist mother of teenage Nina. And most certainly not in times of a pandemic.

Two urban, liberal couples in their 30s decide to help a Russian friend escape to Austria. Though initially thrilled by this adventure, the Austrians soon find the very foundations of their friendships and relationships are threatened.

Based on Buñuels Exterminating Angel (1962), this experimental feature film tells the story of five actors, stuck between fiction and seeming reality of a studio filmset. After the whole crew disappears and a boozy night in the studio, the left behind find themselves in the archaic equivalent of the scenery: a secluded cottage in the mountains of tuscany. Set back to themseslves, their roles and without catering „being professional“ turns out to be no adequate survival strategy…

In the hospital, she learns that she suffers from a brain tumor and needs 24-hour attention. Although they have maintained no contact with each other, she will be hosted by her daughter, who, however, has already booked a Christmas vacation with her family in Thailand. The only solution is to take her mother with her.

Three couples in Vienna have children at around the same time. They're all in their mid-30s, successful, cool and live in a popular part of town. As idealistic as they are materialistic, they grow tomatoes on the balcony, drink locally roasted coffee and expensive cocktails and would never buy an electronic device sporting a half-eaten apple. And they're absolutely certain that you can have children without becoming bourgeois. But the reality tells a different story. Between career and kindergarten, Apple and alternative lifestyles, the satire plays cleverly with hipster clichés and mercilessly points up the gap between the old self-image and the new bourgeoisie.
