20대 후반의 아름다운 샌드라는 두 살배기 아들 데이비드를 인공지능 자동차 ‘모놀리스’에 태우고 부모님 댁으로 향한다. 사업차 가족과 떨어져 LA에서 혼자 지내는 남편과 통화하던 샌드라는 자신의 친구와 남편이 바람을 피운다고 의심하고 고속도로 대신 지름길인 우회도로를 택해 LA로 떠난다. 어스름한 저녁 한가로운 산길을 달리던 샌드라의 차에 갑자기 사슴이 뛰어들고 차에서 내린 샌드라는 사고를 목격한 순간 경악을 금치 못한다. 때마침 카 시트에 앉아 스마트폰과 연결된 자동차 키를 갖고 놀던 데이비드가 그만 차 문을 잠가버리면서 예상치 못한 일들이 벌어지는데…… 당신이라면 어떻게 할 것인가?
