This story starts in 1980 in Paris as the memories of Andrei Borodin, a Soviet agent, take the action back to 1943 during the Teheran meetings of Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill. A high-ranking Nazi officer developed a plan to assassinate the three world leaders in order to undermine the Allied forces. He commissioned the German agent Max Richard to carry out his plan, but it failed miserably due to the quick action and thinking of Andrei. While in Teheran, Andrei met a French woman, Marie Louni, living in the city and they had a brief but intense affair. Nearly four decades later, the Nazi officer has been captured - but not for long. Freed by terrorists, the officer is hunting down the German agent who failed to carry out the planned assassinations. Max lives at Françoise, a young French woman, who hides him.

Based on the novel by Charles de Coster "The Legend of Thyl Ulenspiegel and Lamme Goedzak, and their Adventures Heroical, Joyous and Glorious in the Land of Flanders and Elsewhere." First part: "The Ashes of Claes". XVI century. The freedom-loving and cheerful people of the Netherlands under the rule of the Spanish king: persecution, torture, bonfires of the Inquisition, encouraging scammers. The fearless Thyl Uhlenshpiegel and his faithful girlfriend Nele have to go through many trials. Second part: "Viva Beggars!". The people of the Netherlands, tormented by cruel royal decrees, taxes, heresy, torture and executions, began a war of liberation against Spanish rule. Many feats will be performed by the national hero Tilbert (Thyl) Ulenspiegel and his friend Lamme Gudzak before peace returns to their homeland.

It’s not easy to get to him: reputable diplomats, well-known footballers, and the heads of the ministry are seeking the honor to steam. But Kashkin himself does not need to achieve anything, everything is at his service — from black caviar to tickets to the conservatory. And the hero’s cloudless life would have flowed, but then his twin brother Sergei fell ill and asked Ivan to replace him in his equally strange work.

‘삼위일체’로 유명한 15세기의 성상화가 안드레이 루블료프의 인생과 고뇌를 그린 타르코프스키의 두 번째 장편으로, 9개의 에피소드가 연결된 프레스코 구조를 지닌다. 역사의 기록에만 몰두하며 순수 예술가로 남을 것인지 아니면 정치와 시류의 흐름을 쫓아 갈 것인지를 두고 고민하는 종교화가의 안드레이 루블로프의 고뇌를 통해 예술의 본질 탐구와 동시에 당시의 사회상을 꼬집은 수작으로, 침략 전쟁, 기아, 질병에 고통받는 러시아 민중의 삶을 배경으로 '예술이란 무엇이며, 무엇을 해야 하는가?'를 묻고 있는 이 영화는 안드레이 타르콥스키의 작품 중 가장 '역사'에 가깝게 다가서고 있다. 여러 개의 에피소드들이 느슨하게 연결되어 있는 '프레스코' 구조를 지니고 있으며, 마치 거대한 프레스코 벽화를 보는 듯한 웅장한 느낌을 준다. 안드레이 타르코프스키는 의 감독 콘찰로프스키와 사석에서 대화하던 중에 신비의 베일에 싸여있던 15세기의 성상 화가 루블레프에 매력을 느껴 영화화할 것을 결심했다고 전한다. 공개 당시 당국의 정책을 비판했다는 이유로 상영이 금지되기도 했다.
