카사블랑카, 그 어느 도시보다 활기차고 매력적인 이 도시는 사실 위험천만한 곳이다. 이 영화는 카사블랑카를 배경으로 진실한 삶을 추구하는 네 명의 인물을 따라간다. 록스타가 꿈인 하킴, 사회가 규정한 여성으로 살기를 거부하는 살리마, 늘 카사블랑카에 사는 것을 꿈꾸는 유대인 조, 성에 눈을 뜨면서 전통과 현대적 가치 사이에서 방황하는 이네스. 한편, 약 30년 전으로 거슬러 올라가면 아틀라스 산맥에 자리한 어느 작은 마을에 열정적인 교사가 있다. 그는 사회로부터 침묵을 강요 받고, 그로 인해 부서진 꿈들은 메아리 속에 녹아 들어 세상에 울려 퍼진다. 영화 속 주인공들은 모두 세상에 환멸을 느끼지만, 그들이 느낀 감정은 언젠가 이 도시를 다시금 살아나게 할 마음속의 불꽃이나 다름없다.
