Dennis Jennings is an introverted daydreamer, sleepwalking through life. He is a professional waiter and has an equally-dull girlfriend, Emma. In an attempt to release his pent-up feelings of isolation, he begins seeing a psychiatrist, only to discover that the doctor is somewhat less than interested in what he has to say. 컴퓨터 자료조사 업무를 전담하는 미국 법무부 산하 연방수사 특수부서의 요원 알렉스(Alexandra: 데브라 윙거 분)는 '온딘의 저주'라는 이상한 병으로 백만장자가 죽은 일련의 사건에 관심을 갖는다. 알렉스는 수차례 걸친 컴퓨터 조회 끝에 하와이에 사는 세계적인 호텔왕 폴(Paul: 세미 프레이 분)의 애인 캐드린(Catherine: 테레사 러셀 분)에게 혐의를 둔다. 알렉스는 캐드린의 정체를 파헤치기 위해 사표를 던지고 그녀에게 접근하나, 교활한 캐드린의 계교로 폴을 살해한 누명으로 교도소로 보내진다. 결국 사건은 파헤쳐져, 백만장자들의 연속적 죽음은 캐드린의 음모로 진행된 것이 드러난다.
