Due to an early delivery from her mother, Rocio is stuck with caring for a herd of sheep, the first time she has done it on her own. Playing in the mountains she loses one of the sheep. Looking for it, she will lose the rest of the herd. In the midst of this tragedy, Rocio will have to face her innocence, conquer her fear of fog and learn that freedom entails responsibility. Nature will teach her that you do not have to defeat your fears, you just have to experience them. 슈퍼마켓에서 일하며 외롭게 살아가고 있던 클라우디아는 어느 날 밤, 급작스런 맹장염으로 병원에 입원하게 되고 옆 침대에 있던 마르타를 만나게 된다. 홀로 네 아이를 키우는 마르타는 클라우디아를 따뜻하게 대해준다. 마르타는 퇴원하면서 클라우디아에게 함께 지내자고 권하고, 마르타에게 신뢰감을 느끼던 클라우디아는 그녀를 따라 나선다. 클라우디아는 점점 평안함을 느끼고, 이 평범하지않는 작은 공동체 속에서 그간 한 번도 느끼지 못했던 소속감을 경험한다. 마르타의 병세는 나날이 악화되지만, 클라우디아와 이 가족의 유대감은 점점 끈끈해져만 간다.
