평화로운 오후, 아들과 아버지가 들판에서 즐겁게 일하고 있다. 그런데 갑자기 개가 마구 짖으며 이상한 소리를 낸다. 그들은 음산한 기분을 느끼며 공포감에 휩싸인다. 갑자기 허수아비가 막내아들을 덮치더니 어디론가 아들을 끌고 간다. 아버지는 죽을힘을 다해 쫓아가지만 죽어 가는 아들을 보며 오열을 토하고 만다. 이제 ‘크리퍼’(식인마)가 기이하고 의식적인 살육을 시작하는 22번째 날이다. 이 고대의 육식 동물은 또 다시 사라졌다가 23년 후에 깨어나기 위한 축제의 마지막 날을 남겨두고 있다. 긴 잠을 위해 먹이를 찾는 그로써는 아이 하나로는 성에 차지 않는다. 때마침 눈앞에 싱싱한 식량을 실은 버스가 걸려들었다. 황량한 고속도로...고등학교 농구대표팀과 치어걸들을 실은 버스가 갑자기 멈춰 선다. 누군가에 의해 찢겨진 타이어...갈아 끼우고 다시 출발하지만 또 다시 펑크나고 만다. 휴대폰은 모두 통화권 이탈이고 무전기도 먹통이다. 날은 어두워만 가고... 버스 기사는 계속해서 무전을 시도하지만 응답이 없고, 지나가는 차도 한 대 없다. 게다가 라디오에서는 엽기적인 사건이 뉴스로 흘러나온다. 인근 교회 지하실에서 600구의 시체가 서로 꿰매진 채 발견된 것이다. 점점 불안한 기운이 감도는 가운데 주위는 캄캄해지고 끔찍한 살육이 시작된다. 새벽이 오면 모든 게 끝나지만 밤새 일어날 끔찍한 일들은 걷잡을 수 없이 커져간다.

자말은 중세시대 테마 파크에서 청소부로 일하고 있다. 손님이 많지는 않지만 근근이 견뎌오고 있는 놀이동산이다. 하지만 이 테마파크에 큰 위기가 닥쳤다. 바로 옆 동네에 새로운 중세시대를 테마로 하는 캐슬월드가 생기는 것이다. 사장은 보다 깨끗한 파크로서 현상을 유지하려 하지만 대부분의 일꾼들은 그 캐슬월드로 직장을 옮길 생각을 하고, 자말 역시 마찬가지. 벌써 이력서까지 준비해 놓은 자말은 성주변을 청소하던 중 연못가에 빛을 발하는 무언가를 보고 손을 뻗치다가 결국 빠져버리고 만다. 정신을 차린 자말은 꾀죄죄한 행색으로 술냄새를 팍팍 풍기는 걸인을 보고 자신이 캐슬월드의 개장파티에 온 것이라고 생각한다. 걸인의 이름은 놀티. 자말은 놀티가 불쌍해 이것저것 그에게 충고를 해주고 큰길을 찾아 떠난다. 걸음을 떼면 뗄수록 캐슬월드의 리얼한 세트에 놀라는데, 머지않아 그는 아름다운 여인 빅토리아에 의해 자신이 실제로 14세기 영국에 있다는 것을 깨닫고 얼떨결에 왕의 앞에서 노르망디에서 온 사신이 되어버린다.

변호사인 주인공 빌리는 어려운 사건을 맞게 되지만 일을 순조롭게 만들어 결국 승소하게 되고, 그 덕분에 그는 고객과 아주 친해진다. 빌리는 축하 파티가 끝나고 자신의 아내와 함께 집에 돌아오는 길에 교통 사고를 내는데 빌리는 그 사고로 한 집시 할머니를 죽이게 된다. 하지만 빌리는 다른 동료 변호사의 훌륭한 변호로 화를 면하게 되고 다시 정상 생활로 돌아 온다. 백킬로가 훨씬 넘는 빌리는 아내 등살에 다이어트를 시도해 보지만 별 효과가 없었다. 항상 넘치는 식욕때문에 살이 빠지지 않는 빌리에게 어느 날 집시 노인이 다가와 살이 빠지게 될 거라며 주문을 외워 주는데, 이와 비슷한 일이 빌리를 변호해 준 판사에게도 일어난다. 그후 빌리는 한없이 먹어대는 데도 계속해서 살이 빠지게 되고 판사는 이상한 피부병에 걸려 결국 자살하게 된다. 빌리는 차사고로 죽은 할머니가 집시 노인의 딸인 것을 알고는 이것은 바로 그 집시의 저주가 내린 것이라 믿게 된다. 한편 빌리의 아내는 점점 이상하게 변해가는 남편을 속여가며 다른 남자를 만나는데 그 사실을 눈치 챈 빌리는 괴로워 한다. 결국 빌리는 자신의 고객이었던 친구 덕분에 집시 노인의 저주를 풀게 되지만 집시 노인은 대신 다른 사람이 저주를 받아야 된다며, 다른 사람을 정할 수 있는 결정권을 빌리에게 준다. 빌리는 저주를 담은 파이를 들고 집으로 돌아 가서 아내에게 파이를 주지만 예기치 않게 그의 사랑하는 딸 마저 저주의 파이를 먹고 죽고 만다.
