A remake of the American film Ruthless People. Sean Lau plays a rich, fast-food chain owner named Lam Chak-chi. Mr. Lam hates his wife but married her so that he could inherit the fast-food chain from her father. He decides he will kill his wife, but before he gets his chance she is kidnapped. Shortly after, the kidnappers demand ransom money or else they will kill his wife. By telling the police one thing and the kidnappers another, he hopes to get rid of his wife, keep the cash and come out of it all without being suspected of any wrongdoings. However, things don't go the way Mr. Lam expects. Lau Ching Wan also plays his twin brother, who is one of the kidnappers.

1940년대 초, 일본의 침공으로 전 중국이 혼란에 빠져있을 무렵, 중국내 일본의 포로 수용소 732에 화영웅이라는 의기에 찬 젊은이가, 고향에 두고온 약혼자 초목란과의 결혼을 위해 필사의 탈출을 시도한다. 황포군관학교에서 군관 교육을 받는 중국의 비밀공작원인 초목란은 약혼자인 화영웅을 공작원으로 끌어들여 새로운 임무의 작전을 개시한다. 그 작전이란 세계에 퍼져있는 중국화교들이 중국의 승리를 위해 모금한 구국기금이 스위스 은행에 예치되어 있는데 그 은행의 비밀번호를 알고있는 '재물신'이라는 비밀공작원과 접선하여 그 비밀번호를 알아내서 중국의 구국기금으로 쓰는 것이다. 그러나 공교롭게도 그 재물신은 화영웅이 갇혀있던 732 수용소내에 있다는 소식을 접하고 비밀공작원 천자 1호인 뚱보와 천자 2호인 나삼, 그리고 천자 3호인 목란과 함께 공작금을 찾기위한 작전에 돌입한다.

범인들이 보석을 밀수하려 한다. 이에 FBI 본부는 보석밀수 범죄단체의 정보를 입수하고 FBI 수사관은 수사를 시작한다. 범인들이 미국을 탈출하여 홍콩으로 도주하자 FBI수사관도 범인들을 추적하여 홍콩에 입국한다. FBI수사관은 범인들이 보석밀수에 관련된 암호 문서가 마이크로 필름에 삽입되어 있는 것을 탐지하고 범인들을 추격 끝에 섬멸하고 체포하는데 성공한다.

중국 대륙이 공산혁명의 불길에 휩싸일때 홍콩으로 밀입국 하다 아버지를 잃은 초삼은 우연히 알게된 소매치기의 아들 샤피와 절친한 친구로 성장한다. 초삼의 결혼식날, 신부 메이의 가족들은 초라한결혼에 잘못 불만을 늘어놓고 이를 본 샤피는 강도짓을 하여 돈을 조달하고 이로 인해 샤피와 초삼은 체포, 투옥된다. 가난에 한이 맺힌 이들은 출옥후 고리채를빌어 매춘사업을 벌이지만 잇다른 경찰의 단속과 엄청안 이자때문에 파산직전이다.

He plays Lam, a Taiwan gangster who flees to Hong Kong after killing a rival gangster. Hiding at his uncle gang boss Lip's place, he gets embroiled in more gang conflicts and is forced to be an informant for the police.
