A documentary about the most important modern Iranian poet and intellectual icon. Iranian poet Ahmad Shamlou talks about his poetry, the world of poetry, and his life. Filmed over a two year period from 1996 to 1998.

In the village of Hesar in Urmia provinces, two tribes have an old dispute with each other. They are known as Baladehi and Paeindehi. The movie tells the story of their conflicts. The Paeindehis purchase a bus after selling a salt marsh near the sea, causing Baladehis who live their lives by riding chariots (ilinka), lose their job. Disputes resume and the teacher and Pirbaba (elder) of the village try to reconcile them, but the village chief who does not want to lose his profits, makes the Baladehis buy a bus as well.... The arrival of the bus to the village reveals the fact that the village chief has planned it all to acquire more and more wealth. Learning this, the two tribes forget their dispute to punish the chief, and afterwards, they all resume their normal lives.

After the death of the landlord of the village, his European wife demands the land of Baba Sobhan but his two sons who farm there are refusing. They promise to pay the rent on the right ...

다리우스 메흐르지에게 국제적인 명성을 안겨주며 이란 뉴웨이브의 출현을 선언한 작품. 주인공 하산은 자신이 기르는 소를 애지중지하는 것으로 유명하다. 어느 날 그가 외출한 사이 소가 죽어버리자, 사람들은 그에게 소가 없어졌다고 거짓말 하기로 약속한다. 는 잘 알려지지 않은 이란 영화의 고전이며 거의 아무런 흠도 찾아볼 수 없는 걸작이다. 좀처럼 다른 영화에서는 찾아볼 수 없는 특이한 설정으로 이야기를 시작해 점점 저항할 수 없는 결론으로 관객을 몰고 간다. 주인공 마쉬트 하산은 자신이 기르는 유일한 소를 애지중지하는 것으로 마을에서 유명하다. 그는 마치 아이를 보살피듯이 지극한 정성으로 소를 대한다. 그의 주된 걱정거리는 이웃에 사는 볼로루스가 밤에 몰래 와서 소를 훔쳐가지나 않을까 하는 것이다. 어느 날 하산이 밖에 볼일이 있어 집을 비웠을 때 갑자기 소는 코에서 피를 흘리며 앓다가 죽는다. 마을 사람들은 소를 파묻고 하산이 돌아왔을 때 소가 사라졌다고 거짓말을 한다. 하산은 그 말을 믿지 않는다. 그는 지붕에 올라가 사라진 소가 언제 돌아올까 애타게 기다린다. 소의 죽음으로 그는 자신이 유일하게 의지했던 인생의 가치를 잃어버렸다. 그것으로 그의 삶은 곧바로 지옥으로 굴러 떨어진 것이다. 그리고는 더 무섭고 끔찍한 일들이 벌어진다. 는 우리가 흔히 생각하는 일상의 정의를 무시무시하게 뒤집어버린다. 문명인들이 바라보는 전원생활에 대한 통념 따위도 저만치 비켜간다. 겉으로는 아무 일도 벌어지지 않을 듯이 보이는 한 시골 마을을 배경으로 이 영화는 서로 적대적인 세계의 불온한 공기를 집요하게 추적하며 집착과 소유욕에 대한 살벌한 통찰을 전해준다. 로케이션 촬영으로 실제 마을 사람들을 캐스팅해 연출한 듯이 보이는 이 영화는 시골마을의 삶과 정신적 질병에 관해 전혀 알려지지 않았던 면면들에 접근하며 말로 우리가 흔히 인간성이라고 부르는 것의 입체적인 면모를 탐구하고 있다.
