A dramatization of the life of Sally Stanford, who operated a bordello in the northern California town of Sausalito, and eventually went on to be elected mayor of the town.
1943년 필리핀은 일본군에 완전 포위되어 있었다. 대통령으로부터 철수 명령을 받은 맥아더 장군은 PT함을 이용해 필리핀을 떠난다. 크레기도 요새도 함락되고 웨인라이트 장군은 일본군의 포로가 된다. 맥아더는 뉴기니아 공격 요지와 보급로 차단 등 혁혁한 전과를 가져온다. 맥아더는 필리핀을 탄환할 것을 대통령에게 건의하여 작전을 허가받아 필리핀을 탄환한다. 루즈벨트가 서거하고 트루만이 대통령에 취임하여 나가시키와 히로시마에 원폭 투하를 재가한다. 이 사건으로 일본은 항복한다. 미국 내의 맥아더 지지자들은 그를 대통령 후보에 입후보 시켰으나 결과는 참패였다. 한국에서의 전쟁이 발발하자 맥아더는 즉시 인천에 상륙한다. 대통령의 만류에도 불구하고 맥아더는 만주를 폭격할 것을 구상한다. 이 사건으로 맥아더의 본국 소환이 결정되어 가족과 함께 본국에 돌아온 그에게 미국 국민은 미 역사상 최고의 전쟁 영웅의 환대를 베푼다. 하원 합동회의에서 그는 유명한 은톼 연설을 남긴다. 노병은 죽지 않는다. 다만 사라져 갈 뿐이다.
Melodrama set in South Vietnam in the 1960s. Krueger (Bramhall), a former infantry lieutenant, is imprisoned at Quai Dong, on the South China Sea, for refusing to fight. After a year at hard labor, he is told to use his Vietnamese language skills to question a Viet Cong suspect. The prisoner is drugged and tortured during the interrogation. Krueger eventually stops the torture by pretending that the prisoner has disclosed the location of a supply dump.
